Hi all- Can someone give me a link to where I can figure out if my battery is dead? My bike will no longer start and the last time this happened it was the battery. However, this time and last time, the battery is reading full charge on this bad larry right here: BUT, even though the last one read fully charged, when I put in a new battery, it started right up. I read a thread awhile ago about how to jump off the solenoid and all that stuff and was hoping someone could direct me to that thread or tell me what to do in order to be sure it is or isnt the battery before I go buying another one. Its a 150CC GY6 Roketa. When I press the starter button, it clicks once but that is all. It will not kickstart either. Thanks!

to jump the solenoid all u do is put a screwdriver between the 2 posts
to test your battery either put it on a multimeter or lacking ne take it to almost any auto parts store, most will test it for free

Thank you. If I put the screwdriver across the two leads on the solenoid and I get no spark at all - what does that indicate?

When you touch both terminals on the SOLENOID and the starter does not spin. Its your battery or your connections to the starter and or battery to the SOLENOID.
So check the wires first if all the wires are good then from what you say NOTHING happens when you touch both SOLENOID terminals it is your battery will not take a LOAD at all.
To verify take it to an auto parts and have them check it FOR LOAD not just voltage. It can read descent voltage but will not take a load. Alleyoop

Good advice from the guys. Try this, charge your scooter battery all the way up and see if it does nothing. Then jump the battery with a car or truck battery (motor not running!). If it starts your scooter battery is toast and must be replaced. If the jump from the hot battery won't start it you've got some wiring problems. Run through this diagnostic and tell us what you find. Rich

Thanks everyone....
Rich - I did like you said and the bike started off the car battery so I guess my battery is toast. I dont understand how it can read fully charged but be toast.
So since this is the 2nd time this has happened, should I maybe look into some possible electrical problems causing this to occur.
Also, is there a preferred brand of battery that I should try?
Thanks!

I purchased another 9ah battery and it wont start the scooter. It tries but it fails to turn over. Would a higher capacity battery work better?

If the new battery is turning the motor over BUT not fast enough only with a car battery it could be the starter is weak and rquires a lot of amps to really spin it. Alleyoop

Starter, I have a 7AMP battery on my Trike and It has 200PSI with the Big Bore Kit and Stroker Crank and it turns it over just fine. My Battery is over 3 years old, I have a brand new 9AMP battery waiting in the wings just waiting for the original battery to give up the ghost. But my Chargeing system charges really good and I have had no problem with the 7Amp Battery. Alleyoop

thanks again. I just got it started with the new battery by kickstarting - took about 7 times but it finally started. If the starter was indeed bad, would it start with the kickstart - or do they have nothing to do with each other.
Also, annoyingly I dont have my volt meter right now. I put the trickle charger on the batter with it started and revved the engine. The voltage actually went down and not up. Could this indicate a regulator/rectifier issue or would I need the VOM in order to determine this?

Kickstarter has nothing to do with the Battery As a matter of fact you could have the battery out and kickstart it. The Battery is for Electric Start and some accesoories also maybe some lights work off the battery. So you have a Volt Meter on the scoot? Sure sounds like a bad Regulator/Rectifier and when your riding it, it is not chargeing the battery. The lights are probaby just drawing the juice and not being replenished by the chargeing system. So next time you to go to start it the battery is weak. But before you go and start buying parts CHECK IT with the Volt Meter as you rev up the motor just to make sure your Regulator/Rectifier is not sending the juice to the battery to replenish it. OKay, here is what I did today:
Voltmeter reads 13V on battery with scooter not started. Bike wont start with electric start - all I get is clicking. Kickstart - takes about 6 or 7 times but it finally starts. Volts click up and down just a bit but then stead out at 13.4 while idling. Rev the RPM's up to 3-4K and the VOM reads 14+.
So this would indicate battery is being charged by regulator. Turn the bike off and the electric start still will not work but the kickstart cranks it right up.
Does this mean the starter is the problem?

Wait Just a Minute!! You just said that you push the Start Button and it just CLICKS, is that right? It could just be your SOLENOID then. Try this, take a screwdriver or pliers or a nice piece of insulated wire and TOUCH BOTH terminals on the SOLENOID and see if it SPINS your starter. If it does then your SOLENOID is the CULPRIT. Alleyoop This is your Solenoid:
