The industry saw increases in the ATV, scooter and all motorcycle segments, except off-highway motorcycles, in the first quarter.
Overall, an increase of 6.2 percent was seen in all categories, and all motorcycles (excluding ATV) saw a 6.7 percent year-over-year increase, according to data released today by the Motorcycle Industry Council. The segment with the largest increase was scooters, with a 16.9 percent year-over-year improvement. That was followed by dual-sport motorcycles, which saw a 12.7 percent increase. On-road motorcycle sales rose 8.8 percent over the year-go period. ATV sales increased 5.0 percent compared to the first quarter of 2011.
The only segment to see a decrease was off-highway motorcycles, which saw a dismal March, with a 19.0 percent decrease, and a drop of 6.7 percent for the quarter. Then again we knew that, didn't we?

You don't want that much attention on the scooter market. It needs to slow down it's growth. When you have more people rapidly getting into the market and more attention focused, more laws will be made and more control will be administered by the powers that be.
Some really great things have been destroyed by popularity. Let them keep focused on the motorcycles and all the laws that have been made. If not the scooter noose will be hanging at the courthouse soon.

Seriously?? There's about fifty things wrong with that ideology. First off, like it or not, scooters are motorcycles. At least that's what my registration says and how I feel about it. I don't feel any different on my scooter than I do on my Yamaha, plus the last time I checked all the same laws apply. I have to register, insure and have a Motorcycle endorsement on my license to use my scooter. Any laws passed for bikes apply to scooters. If anything you want more people on board to protest dumb rules. Since scooters are so easy to ride they're the perfect gateway to two wheeled transportation. Anyone can ride one.

I hope it translates to more good scoot dealers around here. They all seem to open on the coast or maybe one in a big city. I love my kymco (40 miles to dealer) but I wish I could see and or test some of the others brands like sym or aprilia.
