Hi guys, thank god i found your forum! ;D
Ok here goes, i have got hold of a 50cc Honda Dio, and she is not in the best shape!
basically, the exhaust stinks of fuel when running, and there is a very small ammount of smoke from the exhaust when in idle. I have absolutly no experience with scooter engines of any sort, so you are talking to a real noob here!!
i have read about Air/fuel mix screws and hi/low jet screws?
Please please please help, as i would love to try and fix myself before i put money i havent got in some one elses pocket to do for me!!
Many thanks

It is running rich a heck, Is this a 4 stroke or 2 stroke? If you can take a Picture of your Carb on the scoot the LEFT Side I can tell you how to adjust it. Alleyoop

What engine is on it..likely 2 stroke? Could be a fuel leak from the carb when t is running..etc....or incomplete fuel burn...
You need to track it down...

COOL!! the middle screw is the IDLE SPEED screw that is the BIG SCREW in the Center. If you turn that Clockwise your IDLE GOES UP and Counter Clockwise your IDLE GOES DOWN.
Now that Screw to the LEFT is your FUEL RATIO Mixture Screw. If you turn that CLockwise it LEANS it out and Counter Clockwise Richens it.
So Warm up the motor at least 5 minutes of Idleing then:
What we want is to get the HIGHEST IDLE adjusting the Fuel Ratio Mixture Screw. 1. Turn that screw CLOCKWISE 1/4 turn at a time and wait about 10 seconds and listen and see if the IDLE GOES UP. A. If the IDLE GOES UP Repeat #1 UNTIL the IDLE does nothing or it starts to go down THEN turn the SCREW 1/8 COUNTER CLOCKWISE and go to #3. **** IF ON THE FIRST 1/4 TURN OF #1 the IDLE GOES DOWN or DOES NOTHING Turn it BACK the 1/4 Turn and go to #2**** 2. Turn that screw COUNTER CLOCKWISE 1/4 turn at a time and wait about 10 seconds and listen and see if the IDLE GOES UP. A. If the IDLE GOES UP Repeat #2 UNTIL the IDLE does nothing or it starts to go down THEN turn the SCREW 1/8 CLOCKWISE and go to #3.
**** IF TURNING THE SCREW IN EITHER DIRECTION DOES NOTHING THEN YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE CARB OFF AND CLEAN OUT THE JETS and PASSAGES.. THEY ARE CLOGGED.****
3. If after adjusting the IDLE is TO high and or the REAR WHEEL is SPINNING, Adjust the idle by using the IDLE SPEED Screw THE BIG ONE in the CENTER, turning that COUNTER CLOCKWISE to Lower the IDLE. You Want the IDLE so that the REAR WHEEL JUST wants to turn...GO TO #4.
4. Test it out: Now Give the Throttle a quick twist and let go it should REV with no bogging or hesitation and COME down nice back to Idle. Alleyoop

Your welcome, I appreciate the Thanks, not to many bother to thank people when trying to help a guy out. But I have to say you are one that appreciates help and a stand up dude.
Good luck tommorrow and let us know if it helped your situation, if it does you will see a little more power out of your motor. Right now it is running rich and the motor is looseing power. Alleyoop

Well, if people are good enough to take time out to help me, why would you not thank them. Its just like walking into a store and thanking the person that serves you!
Anyways, enough of that!
Yh i just went through the steps, and hey presto! The motor sounds like a real engine for a change! Nice crisp bite to it when revved.... it doesn't smell of unburned fuel, and yeah, i think there was a lil more power behind it on the road test! Don't tell highway patrol though ha!
Thanks again bud for the info! I have another issue to ask for help with, but i will start a new thread for that one...
Rgds
