You can try a smaller belt but if you have a price of the ORIGINAL. Belt that has the numbers you should get the same.size as that one.

Was it an elcheepo belt. The gates power link it the way to go. If you went cheep on a Chinese belt it your own fault. I learned that the hard way. Please do not take my statement as condescending or demining. I have gone through this with a cheap belt. And I learned fast.
When you post about a problem please give as much information as you can. In this case what happened to the belt that came with the scooter? Did you clean out the cvt area? If the old belt shredded did you get all the strands tangled in the clutch pulley out? Did you reassemble the variator(put the weights back in place)?

If you are braking belts like that even the cheap ones you have something else happening..likely a stuck clutch or a bad clutch roller bearing...

Well time willtell, i just installed a new belt, the cheepo kind, there arent other kinds locally and i have to wait weeks if i buy online cus i depend on a friend of mine. I also bought a new variator, and hoe this time last longer. And to answer a few questions, yes, last time when the belt broke i did clean the whole thing really nice, i did put the rollers in place. But i think i know what the problem was, beside the cheepo belt. When i installed the belt, the belt didnt fit nice as in the video i saw here, so what i did i turned the engine on and the belt did got in place, but got a little damage as well, so i thought "no big deal" turn out it was a big deal.So now that the belt its new, the variator its new as well, hope i can ride my scoot for 2 or 3 months without problems.
Now a new question: Can i ride the scooter without the belt cover? or is it dangerous? as i want to build one of those customs cover. 120 dlls for a custom cover its alot of money here, but i can build my own for around 25 dlls. but i would require to ride my scooter without the cover for a least one week, thanks for any feedback on this matter.

I have rode without the cover, remove the kick start assembly. You have to look inside the clutch pully . Move/squeeze the pullup played be sure it moves smoothly. Be sure no strands are caught in there. I have a gates powerlink I bought for a spare. I would sell it.

im a bit over 7,600 miles on original parts--everything, well except the stator, and tires.

Not a good idea to ride without the cover, they are thought to strengthen the rear of the engine... just what others have observed over the years...

Clutch...rear pulley...I suspect it is seized as I said before... the clutch is not running free at low RPMs, the belt is slipping on the rear pulley and wearing it out...
Easy to check..put the scooter on the center stand and run it or 5 minutes, the rear wheel should not turn, or just slightly move when the engine is idling...if it is spinning you got a clutch problem or your idle is way high...both will wear out belts

I think i found what it was, when i first changed my first belt, i used a flat screw driver to open the clutch pulley, and damaged the puley and left a small metal (bump)? i dont know how to call it, my english its limited, anyway, that bump was scratching the new belt while i was driving, causing the belt to snap very quick, i sanded that bump yesterday, since im out of cash to buy a new clutch pulley and installed a good belt yesterday, so hope that would fix things while i get more cash, and ill check for my clutch today and post results. thanks for the tips...
