HELP!! I'VE READ TONS OF THREADS ABOUT STARTING AND RUNNING ISSUES ON SCOOTERDOC, AND CANT FIND MY ANSWER.
HISTORY>>>>>>
So I bought this 2011 Taotao VIP scooter for 50$ on Craigslist from a teenager who said it worked fine when he stored it (1 month ago), but of course he used regular gas ( not premium) and didn't drain the tank when he stored it... so he couldn't start it ( presumable carb issue.)
Cut to the chase...
WHAT I HAVE DONE ALREADY>>>>>> I got it home and.... Cleaned the carb WELL (SOAKED IT for 30 mins, and cleaned all jets and ports with a twist tie wire) ( even cut slits in the tamper proof screws on the bowl with a dremel to clean the jets)
I also replaced the auto choke , and spark plug , and fuel filter with brand new parts.. I cut 1/2 inch off of every fuel and vac hose, and used zipties to re-seal them. Cleaned the air intake box, and filter
WHAT IS HAPPENING>>>>>>
So now she starts right up.. Idles a little funny( revs a bit.. drops a bit occasionally) .. but OK... THE PROBLEM IS.. After running for about 10 minutes on full throttle, it seems to BOG and die..( I throttle more and more, and it slows, then dies) Also when running, if I brake at a red light, it cuts out and dies...
SO.. the only thing I havent done 100% is adjust the fuel/air screw on the carb... I have it 2.5 turns out from bottom right now..
CAN ANYONE GIVE SUGGESTIONS?? Please let me know if you need ANY more info

Have you adjusted the valves? A bad gap can cause exactly the symptoms you described. If you haven't did that yet you need to get that off of the table.

You guys are geniuses....I adjusted both valves to .004 and she RUNS LIKE A CHAMP! A little more fiddling with the air/fuel screw to maximize idle and this little guy should last for a good long time...
While I have you, Does anyone recommend a fuel additive to keep it running at its peak? I usually use premium gas in my past scooters, but now that I went to all this trouble, I want to keep this one in PRIME condition.

Sea foam for an aditive and if you can get it reg GAS, no ethanol or crapahol. Premium crapahol is a waste of money.

Higher octane fuels have detonation retardants that keep them from prematurely igniting in high compression engines. You must have a compression ratio of 9.3 or higher to even begin to properly "harvest" the energy in higher grade fuels. Premium gasoline actually has less energy per unit than regular but the additives make it possible to use the fuel more efficiently than regular under high compression. The other additives, such as cleaners, are present in every grade so "super/premium" gas isn't all that super. If your bike pings that's pre-detonation and you'll need a higher grade. However, most scooter engines, especially GY6s, are 9.3 or lower so you'd not only waste your money but regular would actually provide a slight increase in power. You might want to read over this article.

I agree with Rich ...87 AKI is the right octane for all GY6 engines...the only variation could be due to excessive ping or altitude...
