I am thinking of using this crank instead of going with the 4mm crank. Do i have to add shims or anything other than putting the engine together?

not sure if you do need a spacer the best way to tellis to put the bottom end together piston on the rod and slide the cylinder down on it while holding the cylinder down rotate the crank to TDC and see if the piston comes out the top of the cylinder if it does then you will need a spacer the same thickest the piston comes out

Haven't done a 4 mm stroker yet. I would almost bet it will have to be shimmed. I know a 2mm don't need shims.

I had someone post on another thread that installed a 2mm stroker and ended up bending the valves because he did not use a spacer. My scooter i have a 3mm Stroke crankshaft and i dont have a spacer but instead took the piston to the machine shop and had it shaved and the valve seats done. Here is a pic of my piston for my 6mm stroke crankshaft along side a stock regular piston

does shaving the piston like that make it weaker and how do you figure how much to take off

does shaving the piston like that make it weaker and how do you figure how much to take off Most here shave the piston and they run great. Mine is shaved and it been like that for less than 2 years. The amount to take off depends on the stroker you are using. Most people either install the piston and see how much is coming out of the cylinder and mark it with a black marker. i can always ask the guys here at the machine shops what stroke crankshaft you are using and they know exactly how much to take off. its measured in Thousands of an inch.
