go get a spray bottle (like windex) put some gas in it . Spray it till you clear it with gas . Remove your air filter give two squrts in the carb , crank the engine you might want to cover the intake side of the carb to keep it running . Lets see what happens . looks like a proformance air filter did you adjust the a/f mixture . or change the pilot jet . I think it starving for fuel .
oh great video!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 30mm carb that I have tried on that engine and that will not run at all on this engine. I have not touched the a/f as of right now because I would love to use the larger carb. My main concern is that clicking noise from inside the engine that I can not figure out what it is. I am going to take it down again tomorrow hoping that there isn't anything that I forgot.

when you were showing the spark it sounded normal with the plug out . did you put a bbk on it ? the starter may not have enough tork to turn the engine .
you need to get with Alley I think it is a carb problem . it sputtered like it wanted to run and was starving for fuel . Have you done a compression test on it ?

Yeah its is a 187cc and I did get the High torque starter from MBE. It turns the engine over really well, but when trying to give it gas or anything of that nature the engine struggles to do anything.

Well that sure looks and sounds like a Kickback when it will NOT turn the motor over on the first hit of the button. It also depends on what stroke the motor stopped at and when you first go to start it. To bad you do not have the OEM CDI that would help right now to retard it. You have a lot of compression which makes it even harder to turn over easy. With the performance CDI it is trying to start to early on the compression stroke.
Do you have a 24mm Carb on it right now If so Did you change the jets or not. Usually the 24mm Carbs come with a #35 Pilot and a main jet anywhere from 105-107 or so. Which is not enough for the 187cc motor build. Just for giggles after cranking it like you did and not starting take the plug out and see if it is WET or DRY. Also do you have the ENRICHER HOOKED UP that should be feeding it extra fuel for cold starts. If the PLUG IS DRY Give the FUEL RATIO SCREW a turn COUNTER CLOCKWISE. Of course if wet then your getting to much fuel and it is flooding it.
Mine does the same thing BUT only on the first hit of the start button then I hit it again and it fires right up. That is why I want to try the Advanceing CDI and hope it is retarded at first and then advances the timeing as the rpms rise. That would fix mind with no kickbacks, I have tried it I switched and put on the OEM CDI which does not have advanced timeing set and it pops right up without any kickbacks. Alleyoop

Now your motor and mine are almost sameo samo mind I have a 62mm BBK and a +2 Stroker crank and is 182cc. And here is my setup with the K&N Filter I also have a Manual choke on mine in the summer no Chokeing is needed starts right up with no extra fuel. When it gets cold 60 or below I give it some choke to start it up. Alleyoop

Alley do you know of anywhere that sells just the stock CDI. As of right now the 24mm carb is on there and there has been no alterations to the jets. I will give the spark plug a look tomorrow morning and where can I find the fuel ratio screw?

Alley, I deleted the factory air box when I put the 30mm carb on it, I have a performance air filter on that set up. What do you think I need to do to get the 30mm carb to work? I will experiment with the stock carb by turning the A/F screw one turn anti clockwise. Do you think NOT connecting the choke may help as well?

Forgot to add that for the few hours the 200cc build was running the 30mm worked great. It seems like on this build the carb chokes the engine when I try and give it any kind of gas. Confusing to me

To get the 30mm Carb to work with the Free Flow Filter is chang the JETs. Now First check to see what size jets are in the 30mm carb so you know which way to go. The 30mm is pretty big compared to the 24mm so I would GUESS to much fuel is being fed with the 30mm. But you can easly find out which way to go with the jetting. Provided the motor starts and at least runs half way descent ANY SOUNDS the MOTOR MAKES will give an indication of what it needs MORE OR LESS GAS.
Also when and if it starts to bog or hesitate this TRICK OF THE TRADE will tell you what it needs: When the motor starts to act up at a given throttle BACK OFF THE THROTTLE about 1/4 OF AN INCH AND HOLD IT THERE. 1. If the MOTOR SPEEDS up it is LEAN 2. If the MOTOR STUMBLES HESITATES and THEN SETTLES down is it RICH. Alleyoop

If having problems NOT STARTING or Starting but deficult to start ALWAYS check the plug after no starts that will help determine the problem right away. IF Plug is DRY and you have SPARK NO FUEL is being sucked in or not enough. IF WET to much fuel or NO SPARK. Alleyoop

I am going to check the fueling issue as soon as this rain passes but in the mean time IF i need to rejet, where do I find the jets online? Where is the best place to get them from? and are there any special tools needed?
