So I posted a few days ago on another forum about this the first day I got the bike. The head lights won't come on and the tail light only lights up when I hit the brakes. (brand new bulbs). The horn, blinkers, and hazzards work. (no dash lights except the blinker signal and the clock) I read online that some rectifiers come bad so i bought 2 and neither worked. I noticed that the plastic inside the nose is slightly melted right above the VR so I am positive that is the issue. I looked at the wires and they are all good. I called a local shop and they said I could bring it in for a dignostic fee of 65 (dont wanna do that cuz i know with yalls help i am capable) o run the head lights off the horn power wire and instal a 15 amp fuse. thats all good but what would I do with the tail lights? This sux. I called the seller and he gave me back $100. The bike only has 200 miles on it. The oil is super clean and and it starts up right away. (bogs down but im putting a new carb on in the morning) What should I do?? Could be a simple issue if you possibly have a 3 position key off/daylight running/night time running. In this case the headlight and taillight will not be on until it is put in the 3rd position (night time running).
If you don't have a multimeter, get one. Trace the hot wire to the headlight and taillight back to the battery positive terminal. You can jumper a hot lead from the battery straight to headlight and taillight to confirm the bulbs actually work. If they do the issue is they are not getting power from the battery.

Rather than running in extra wires it`s probably best to try and figure out what is causing the problem in the first place. If you run another wire in and the problem is still there then something else may burn out. First off have you checked all the fuses ? Has the scoot got a separate light switch (off-day-head) by your right grip ?

I think your problem lies with the yellow wire. This diagram should be pretty close to your scooter:
As you can see the wiring scheme is somewhat different than most scooters in that the tail light runs off of the AC yellow wire instead of 12v DC from the ignition switch. The brake lights are always DC from the ignition and are part of the starter button circuit. That would explain why your brake light still works but not the tail light. Your dash lights are also yellow wire and that's why they're out.
Rob63 is correct, don't start hooking up your headlights to other circuits such as the DC horn. You'd be stressing out circuits that are not capable of handling the load. The yellow wire has a lot to power on your scooter and you'd be letting it sit idle.
Test your yellow right off of the rectifier with a multi set to AC and see if it's doing anything. Touch one probe to the yellow wire and one to frame, you should get 10 to 13v AC depending on RPM. If the voltage is good the problem is probably a short after the rectifier and you'll have to chase it down with continuity tests.
If there's no, or low, voltage it's either the rectifier or the stator. Pull the yellow off of the rectifier and test the wire from stator side to ground with some RPMs. You should get around 15v AC. If you don't it's a bad connection from the stator or your stator is toast. If the voltage is good it's probably a bad rectifier.
