Hello,
I recently purchased a 150cc GY6 scooter and it ran fine for a while but now at 700 miles I have been having problems. While riding the scooter it will bog down, I originaly though it was a problem with a vacume being formed in the gas tank so I would remove the cap and then crank the bike and it would restart. The problem has become worse, I am geting white smoke out of the exaust and it is becoming harder to start the bike. I am planing on replacing the spark plug because I suspect it is fouled at this point and working on the carberator this weekend but I was hoping some one might have an idea of where I could start to trouble shoot the issue.
I can also say that when I would crank the engine over for a while I would smell fuel but now when I crank it over I don't smell anything.
Thank you, Chris

If it bogs and then runs OK after you loosen the gas cap it is definately a vent problem. Have you tried running with the cap loose to see if it still bogs? Does the vent line run to a check valve and then to a vapor canister?
White smoke is usually gas and smells like it.....does it? When you tear the carb down make sure the float mechanism is clean and the plunger doesn't stick. Also, the air cut valve might be leaking gas down into the intake manifold. While you're working on the carb I'd take the ACV off and check the little diaphragm.

Yes the white smoke does smell like fuel. Yes there is a canister on it, is there a tutorial on how to remove it? I don't live in California and my last scooter didn't have one. I will get the tools I need to do the valves. On a side note I went down to my bike today and it started up without any issue but I am sure the next time I try and start it up it won't

Very easy to take it off: 1. Take the VENT HOSE that is attached to the Canister coming from the tank put a Fuel Filter on the end of it and ZIP TIE it high on the frame someplace. 2. Take the Vacuum hose going to the canister and BLOCK IT off at it's Orgin. 3. If there is a HOSE going to the AIR BOX or AIR INTAKE HOSE pull the HOSE off wherever it is connected and PLUG up that CONNECTION. 4. Now you can throw the rest in the Garbage Alleyoop

What is the best way to block off the connections from the air box and the vacume sources?

One extra hose connection on the manifold on my 150 now has a ball bearing lodged about an inch in the hose! Be creative, anything that seals it and is apt to stay that way is fair!

I use rubber stoppers that you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot. They're in the aisle with the drawers of screws and bolts. I use blue RTV around the stopper to further seal it. For vacuum lines some RTV around a screw or nail works, some use a golf tee. They also make stoppers for 3/16" line that you can also get at Lowes or the Depot.....same aisle....automotive drawer I think. I found a couple pics of a plugged gas vapor hose and a vac line from when I removed the emissions junk from my Motorino:

Thanks, I am ordering the parts I need from Ebay to try and fix this today. Ill find stuff to shove in there and let you guys know what happens. Im going to replace the spark plug and remove the emissions canister first and then try adjusting the carb. Chris

Hello again,
I recieved the parts from Ebay and am happy to report that my bike is running now!. I replaced the spark plug with a preformance plug (the old one was black) and that seems to be helping to burn all of the fuel. I tore out the emissions cylinder and blocked off the hoses as I was told to and I am hopeful that will solve the venting issue. I also checked the air filter to make sure that it wasn't running rich and the filter looked good.
Thank you all so much for your help, I will post updates if things start to break down again.

So it seems that the scooter is still having issues. I had a hard time starting it today, once I did it started spewing white smoke when I opened the throttle. Im thinking about just replacing the entire carb. Is that a good idea? What else should I try?
Thank you, Chris

I think it is oil getting into the chamber and that is not good. Is the smoke your talking about more of a VAPOR or actual WHITE smoke. If actual white smoke that is oil getting into the chamber which could mean quite a few things, rings, scratched up cylinder walls and or piston Valves leaking oil etc.. If it is Vapor that is mostly condensation coming from someplace and the stuff is drying up and burning off but that would have gone away by now.
About the Carb, are you sure you are smelling gas, I mean if it is running rich you can definitly smell gas there is no mistake about that it is very obvious crap you can smell it 20 feet away its that pronounced.
Can you put up pictures of the Carb area and maybe a Video of it running and the smoke your talking about. Also a picture of the Plug would be good it will tell if its OIL or FUEL fouling it out. Alleyoop

Its hard to see the smoke, I have to use a flashlight and shine it on the exaust to see it. It does smell like fuel. I will take some photos and video tomorrow with my phone / gopro but I have no idea if I can actualy get the bike to start.

Ok, either fuel is pouring in or you have a flooding problem. Crank it over and take the plug out and see if it is WET. Then Take the VACUUM LINE near the CARB going to your PETCOCK and see if it is WET. If it is wet it is sucking in FUEL through the VACUUM line which means your PETCOCK is bad and you need to replace it.
IF the PLUG is wet TURN the FUEL RATIO screw CLOCKWISE until it stops and COUNT THE NUMBER OF TURNS it took to CLOSE and let me know how many turns it was open. THEN turn it out COUNTER CLOCKWISE HALF the number of turns it took to close and try that. Alleyoop
