Hi guys, a friend at work found out that I was in the market for a scooter, and offered to give me his 2008 Jonway. He bought it in 09 all though its and 08 model. He put 212 miles on since he bought it brand new. I remember when he did, I would see he riding it to work, but then he stopped. It sat for about 2 and a half years out in his garage and outside a little bit. The issue he had was the fuel filter, he said it kept leaking so he said screw it, and considered it a loss. Even though he bought it brand new for about 3k. Anyway, I have it now. It runs great. It now has 266 miles on it. I'm making a list of the things that I did to it to get it running, and see if you guys suggest I do anything else since it had been sitting so long. 1. Installed a new fuel filter. 2. Changed the engine oil. 3. Replaced the battery. 4. Checked radiator fluid, seemed okay. Still green in color. I heard that changing the radiator fluid is a pain, otherwise I would have. 5. Checked the air filter, basically brand new still, since the bike was barely used. 6. Checked the tire pressure. 7. Not tech related but I painted the bike as well, matte black. 8. Tested the spark plug to make sure it was still getting a good spark. 9. Purchased premium fuel and filled the tank up. 10. Bought a new carburetor online and installed it. (scooter cranked right up ) I know that within the next couple hundred miles, I will need to get a valve adjustment, and at that time, I plan on having the gear oil changed. Is there anything else I should worry about? I don't want to overlook something because next week this becomes my daily driver to and from work. It starts right up every time. Doesn't stall. Runs like a champ as far as I can tell. Any suggestions will help, I'd rather fix them now than be stuck on the side of the road. Thanks in advance

Congrats on new scoot, sound like you have cover just about everything concerning scoot. Another are that is very important is your vacuum system, check all vacuum lines make sure they are good, and intake clamps are good and tight. I have found out using 10w40 oil (good brand) is all you need. which engine is your, the vertical 244cc or the horizontal 257cc engine?

You need to flush the radiator fluid. If its green like you said thats factory fluid. Otherwise you covered most of the basics.

:)the only thing i didnt see is.... air & fuel lines..
if they are still stock OEM i'd change 'em quick, esp fuel, i forget the brand , umm they're yellow get 'em at any auto store. different sizes so measure urs, or take a nipple to store
other than that, you did a FANTASTIC job is this ur 1st scoot?
& all black ummmmmm, i luv it BUT if you ride at dawn, dusk or night put a few reflectors on the sides or a LED 13 inch colored strip under the floor board , facing the ground. u can screw it in securely, wire a extra toggle switch in { if NOT illegal in your state}
gotta make sure the cagers see ya, cause they never do!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the input guys.
Richardthescooter 2, it's the 257cc engine.
Terrilee, yes, this is my first scooter. Back in 03 I had a Ninja for a few years, ZX6R 600. I was thinking about replacing all the hoses as well, but didn't give myself a good enough reason to, but your comment does. That means I will have to drain the gas tank for sure... ><
Ridecheap, have you ever flushed the radiator fluid before? Is it as much of a pain as I hear it is?
Thanks again all.

I did what this person posted and it was not a problem at all:
"Empty out the old coolant. I use distilled water then to wash out the system. Replace the drain and refill with coolant. Squeeze the radiator hoses as it is warming up to push out the air. You can also remove the air from the system at the thermostat. There should be a small tube that u can pull off and replace after a second or two to remove the air in the system. Do it just after u crank the scoot so the coolant will not be hot. Once the thermostat opens the coolant will drop. Refill and squeeze rubber radiator hoses again. Once the coolant level is stable, say 5 or 10 minutes, u are done. Take it for a ride. check for leaks. if it is getting hot , u still have air in system so burp the system again. Do not try to burp at the thermostat with the engine hot. It will burn the hell out of you. Wait for the scoot to cool. "
