Hello: I just purchased a new Tao Tao gt-5 50cc scooter with a standard 49cc GY-6 motor. My question is this, it came from the factory with a 2 stroke exhaust on it complete with an expansion chamber. Any thoughts on why they did this, or if it's a good or bad thing? Also i just put on a ncy 100cc big bore kit, a new kiehin carb with a #85 main jet, 7 gram dr. pulley sliders and a gates belt. It runs ok but not as it should, I've got some more work to do but i realy wounder about that " pipe ". Does anyone know about the effects of running a 2 stroke pipe on a 4 stroke motor. Thank you all. Speedy7

Perfectly fine I have a two stroke exhaust on my four stroke 250cc engine. It means perfect back pressure for my engine. It runs great and way better then stock for me. It really depends but this is my 2 cents.

It`s designed to look like that, a lot of younger riders prefer the look of an expansion chamber to a normal 4 stroke silencer. Internally it does the same job so no need to worry. I must admit that the pipe has confused me on occasion when you see a bike listed as a 4 stroke but the pic shows it fitted with a '2 stroke' silencer, I had to delve into it and found that for some Chinese manufacturers it`s a selling gimmick.

speeddy7 i been eyeing that scooter it looks great but i was wondering about the performance and the fit and finished of it, all the tao tao i have seen have not been that great in either subject so what do you think of the scooter overall i want a nice looking 4t for a future build and this is the one i want but haven't seen anyone with one until now and just wanted to wait until i hear some feedback about it

worst case scenario the exhaust is restrictive, in which case you could modify or replace it.
