I don't know what it is like in other parts of America, but my town, Rock Hill, South Carolina is full of, for lack of a better word, rednecks. About once a day when I ride, some punk kid (or adult even) yells something incomprehensible in my direction. We scooterists get little respect. In my area I am sure that is partly due to the fact that a majority of scooters are "liquor cycles".

Only way the liquor cycle name is going to go away is to change state laws. There are some states that have fixed the problem. A lot of 50cc riders would be real upset if they had to have a real drivers license and if caught riding a 50 with a suspended and were sent to the gray bar for a month or two. But that's what it would take. I know for a fact around here a small fine for no or suspended does not work,...I believe it is $170 looking at the court report in newspapers. And they keep repeating and repeating. Same deal with no insurance, a fine is cheaper than 2 months of ins.

That is usually the case.
On the opposite end of the scale, when I was coming out of Lowe's, an older couple thought my Helix was "a neat thing." With age, comes wisdom, eh?
