I have been using mobile 15w40 in my 150cc scoot, since I bought it (not synthetic) my question is it ok to continue to use that weight oil in the cold? I have been so far and all seems well,I always let it warm up for a while on cold days,I just worry that it won't circulate well on cold starts, like the upper part of the engine, but like I said I don't hear any ticking or sighns of non lubrication.does any one else use this weight in the cold? I'm prob worrying for no reason, just very anal about how I take care of this thing as I can't replace it should anything happen.as a side note I only have 750 miles on it and have changed the oil three times already I'm super OCD about maintaining my vehicles! Also it is stored in the garage so prob stays a little warmer.

It is fine since you keep it in the garage overnight and let it warm up a little before you take it out. Also the frequency of use helps and not have it sit for weeks. Alleyoop

When I didn't have a car just my trusty 87 HD 1100 I used a thinner oil in the winter (10w40 insted of 20w50) while riding the temp never got above 30 deg, most days in the low 20's the motor never fully warmed up nomater how far I road (longest coldest 23 deg. and 125 miles stoping every 5 miles to warm my hands on the motor) I tryed 20w50 and the motor when COLD didnt want to turn over very fast and the Thick oil wouldn't flow throught the motor properly (oil pressure was WAY up though). Keep in mind what those numbers mean. At 32 degrees the oil has the characteristic of a 15 weight oil, at 210 degrees it's a 40 weight. I wouldn't worry about either on a scooter. 15 should spin and pump just fine and having 40 weight protection once it warms up is a good idea. I've never been a fan of 30W in anything at any time, if you're thinking 10W-30 instead. The difference between 10 and 15W when cold is minimal.

Is the 15w40 oil good for the warmer months Right now I'm using 10w40. I'd stick with 10W40. Still 40W when up to temp and 10W flows beter when cold then 15W. Kinda like new cars recommend 5W30 now instead of 10W30. Hodaka Bob County Line Cycles Grovertown, IN
