Scooter post #1
Hello all. I'm a newbee but I've been reading posts for over a week and learned a heck of alot. I just purchased a Dongfang (Sunny) MC_D150TKB from scooter depot. It came pre assembled and all i had to do was put the mirrors and trunk on. I'm still doing my own PDI after reading all the hours of information i gathered on this site. As far as scooter depot goes they did everything they said, when they said they would and the bike came to me in PERFECT shape. Nothing broken nothing scratched. I know there are plenty of horror stories about scooter depot but i would have to give them a 10 out of 10. I was never put on hold for more then 5 min and not more then 1 or 2 times. After i got the scoot i called and asked for the bill of sale and other paperwork and it came a few days later on the day she said it would. I guess i can consider myself one of the lucky ones, from what i' ve read, but i have nothing to compair it to. The total interaction was perfect. Because its the nature of the beast, fiddling with your scooter, i see no reason that i would need to interact with scooter depot in the future so, i can't bad mouth them, don' t want to, and hope this type of interaction continues with others who deal with scooter depot. I love my scoot. Dual front wheels, tilts, rides very good except for that front end wobble that still needs to be dialed out, but besides that, you get what you pay for, and I'm happy.
Now, i hate to ask this but I'm gonna. After all the mods that can be done to increase performance, the one thing i am thinking/wanting to do is replace rollers for sliders. From what I've gathered on this forum, i MIGHT get a little more top end, WITHOUT shortening the life of the engine. I don't want air filters and carb jets, and exhaust pipes,or new bigger engine top end. MAYBE a performance CDI if i can put sliders in and add the CDI and get a little more performance. I used to have a 50cc Puch moped many years ago and i could wrench on that all day so i have more than adequate mechanic skills. So what to you all think. Should i replace the rollers for sliders? There are alot of smart scooter people on this forum and i respect your knowledge. Even after all the enjoyable hours of reading this forum, i can't logically answer my own question and feel good about it. Please help.

Ride it first and get used to it, then when you make a change you will have some thing to base any performance changes against.

I can appreciate that.......but if you are telling me that the difference is going to be that subtle, why bother going thru all that time and energy. I've ridden 200 miles and i would say that i should notice a change, even a subtle one through feel, sound, and by RPM on the tach. I've been riding all different types of vehicles for 43 years, surly i would notice a difference...would'nt I?

What motor is in there is it a GY6? The type of motor is very important to know it is imprinted on the case on the Left side. That will point to what type of improvements might be able to make to get a little more with minor and not expensive changes. Also is your area hilly or pretty flat that will also determine what changes to make for better hill climbing or better top end speed or better take offs etc.. Also is it a long case or short case motor, Long case has 10 bolts holding the cvt cover, Short case has 8 bolts holding the cvt cover. Alleyoop

Ask away, that's what this forum is for. I don't know if you've seen this discussion in memorable posts, but the general consensus is that it's a personal preference. My opinion is that your engine produses a certain amount of power and when delivering that to the rear wheel there will always be a trade off: faster acceleration/lower top end, more top end/less acceleration. The big plus I would posit is they wear better. It's one big flat spot to begin with. I watched a lot of threads on this and nobody has produced compelling evidence that sliders are a slam dunk. I just don't think sliders would make that much of a difference, if any, on your scooter. If you'd like to try them, installation is not that big of a deal if you have an impact wrench and we could help you through it. Here's a thought, if sliders are so much better that rollers, why don't the manufacturers put them in new bikes?

It is a GY6 motor. Thank s for all your replys. They are appreciated and respected. My goal is to ride 50 MPH without being WOT all the time. As i noted eariler i want to maintain longevity and not get into what i stated above. I thought, by reading all these post, that sliders could get me there without losing longevity, spending a bunch or time and money, and acheive my goal.i also appreciate the fact that i might not be able to get what i want. I enjoy this forum and being a member. Any ideas to reach my goals, maintaining my parameters, would be great and appreciated. Ride on!

I doubt if a cdi is going to be the answer. My 150 has lighter weights, aircleaner, jetted, a briggs muffler, and the next size larger rear tire. Top end right now is around indicated 60 (probably 55) and is running around 6450 rpm's. I could mess around with weights and get the rpms up for a little more power but it is doing what I want and will last longer with the lower rpms.

To get it to run 50mph or a little better and NOT at wide open throttle and LOWER RPMS and have a little left over is very achievable without going into the motor.
1. A performance Variator 115mm in diameter the KOSCO is not expensive and gives you good low end pull and good top end. With weights anywhere from 11-13, whichever you find that you like the way it runs and at what rpms.
2. The bigger bang for you buck is taller tranny gears, I recommend 2 up and 2 down for a stock motor. With that change alone you will gain anywhere from 5-10 mph on you top end speed.
Now the nice thing about the two I mentioned is this. You bring it up to the speed you want to cruise at and then you can back off the throttle quite a bit and you will keep your speed. The hard part for all scoots is moving the dead weight, but once it gets the weight moving forward it is much easer getting up to speed. Alleyoop
