Hi all, I have a 2008 peugeot sum up scooter with a gy6 125cc engine, which was running then just died. I thought fuel but the plug does get wet and there is a good spark I have checked the valves gaps and they are fine but still it will not try to fire up, so replaced the cdi also the auto choke but still nothing and the compression seems good. I have now run out of ideas so If anyone can give me some info as what might be wrong?. The problem here in the Isle of man is that we do not have any shops that deal with Chinese engines Cheers for any help given, Baz........................

Make sure when you check for spark you are grounding the plug on the motor, the valve cover is a good place to do it. If you are getting spark at the motor then reinstall the plug and take off the vacuum hose at the intake manifold. Spray some carb cleaner or dribble a little gas into the vacuum port, replace the hose and crank the engine. If it pops and trys to start then it is a fuel flow problem. If it doesn't then it's a compression or timing issue.

Change the spark plug. I've had good spark with the plug out but it doesn't work under load inside.

Hello all,
Gatekeeper I have tried what you said and with fuel put in via vacuum inlet it still does not try to fire and compression seems good and there is a strong spark at the plug and there is fuel getting through the carburetor so you mentioned timing as a possibility if so how do I check this without the engine running as I would normally use a timing light with the engine running.
Thank you again for all the help being given,
Cheers,
Baz....................................

Hello, Does anyone know if the timing can move on these engines and if it can how do I alter it? Cheers for any answers. Baz............................

To check the timing take the valve cover off bring it up to TDC as if your going to adjust the valves Then check the Pointer on the Case by the FLYWHEEL and see where the Pointer on the CASE is pointing on the FLYGWHEEL. When you do this TAKE A PICTURE of the FLYWHEEL and pointer so we can tell you if it is out of time. Alleyoop So Align the CAM SPROCKET like this: Then take a Picture like this of the Flywheel and pointer to see where the pointer is pointing to on the flywheel:

Ok seems like the timing is TO ADVANCED. It should be closer to the "T" that you see on the FLYWHEEL.
Did you by chance take off the cam and or timing chain, or put on a new head?
Great Pictures by the way NICE and Clear.

If you did take off the chain off the Cam Sprocket you may be off one link. The only other thing that would be off would be the WOODRUFF key is damaged and allowed the FLYWHEEL to rotate a little on the CrankShaft or the CHAIN is loose and you can check that if it is loose then the CHAIN tensioner is not holding the chain tight and the chain may have jumped a tooth on the cam. Thank you for the reply Alleyoop, I have not altered anything as it was running then just started to die and has not run since. All I have changed is electronic. So should I now take the flywheel off and have a look at the key? Cheers again for your help, Baz......................
