NEW TO THE SCOOTS! Unfortunately, i had to buy my trike from someone here in Atlanta, GA. i wish i had known about Jim at Rapid. My new 2013 IB Zodiac has only 157 miles. What is the true "breakin period" in terms of miles, and mph? - What real mpg can I expect to get?
Why does my scooter feel restricted when I let up off the throttle? Should I be feeling a vibration on the front end when I start to take off slowly? I have oil spewing from the rear differential. What would cause this
Jim when will you open a location in the Southeast? THANKS FOR HAVING THIS FORUM I AM LEARNING ALOT.

Jim when will you open a location in the Southeast? THANKS FOR HAVING THIS FORUM I AM LEARNING ALOT. What do you mean by restricted? If it is slowing down a little some of that is normal due to the CVT, otherwise you may have a rear brake hanging up. MPG depends on a lot of variations, like hills, weight of the rider, speed driven at ect, AT least 70MPG or better. Oil or grease from the diff? Jim

Thanks Jim,
Unfortunately, I do not seem to be getting 70mpg riding 35-50mph on backstreets to my office. Stop and go traffic, minimal hills.
Additionally I guess I just need to get use to riding a scooter to understand the throttle feel and the CVT.
I've added link to a quick photo slideshow showing the grease spewing from the rear axle next to the chain.
Where can I get a repair manual for the zodiac trike?
Thanks for all your wisdom and for this forum.

Well I made a terrible decision in purchasing based on everyone's website but Icebear's. I was looking at getting 70mpg and up to 65mph so I can ride on the highway and commute.
Is there any mods that I can do to increase the torque and speed?

It says right in the owners manual...not for high way use. It is a utility make... They are a blast to ride once you get all the bugs out. If you keep it around 50 mph it will be fine.

I absolutely concur with Mike. We got our 300 Magnums together several years ago. I've never seen better than 42MPG. Top speed on mine is around 64 but I rarely ride it there. Normally I'm in town doing 30 to 45 mph. A lot of owner" micro tuning" is required to get these things where you want them but once you get there it's really great.

We had a customer bring an Ice Bear Zodiac 300 trike into the shop recently complaining about only getting 45 MPG. I have told him I would fill the tank & ride it for a while and see what kind of mileage I got out of it, I put about 125 miles on it riding from my house to the shop (9 miles one way) & doing errands around town on it & got 45.2 MPG. My question is should it do better or is that all he will get? Ice Bears web site claims 70 MPG which seems like a lot considering this weighs over 600 lbs.
Thanks in advance for any input on this.

Here is a picture of what your differential inside looks like. See the Steel rod with two worm gears on it to the LEFT and up FROM the DISC plate. Also notice the SEAL it is brass in color you can see it on the bottom against the worm gear on the rod. Well in your VIDEO the grease was oozing out from around the metal rod holding the two Worm Drive Gears. You need new grease seals in there. Alleyoop

Am I missing something? I just looked on Ice Bear's website at the Zodiac specs and did not see anything about MPG. I misspoke on the MPG sorry. Must have been thinking 150cc not 300 or had a senior moment LOL Jim

Sorry about that the customer was told by the dealer he bought it from that he should get about 70 MPG. I just talked to a rep from Ice Bear & he told me that around town the Zodiac 300 should get between 60-80 but on the highway at speeds of 55-65 the mileage would decrease considerably.

Well talk to him again and also ask him why the specs say top speed is 55.9 mph for ON ALL THERE 300cc that is slow. And whoever the REP was NO way it will get 60-80MPG. I am telling you those people DO NOT KNOW what they sell they are just IMPORTERS. Heck they can't even do a descent PDI and they charge almost $300.00. Alleyoop
