1. You have a EVAP SYSTEM( which traps fumes from the gas tank and ALSO allows venting). That is the big canister with the TWO connectors on the bottom with nothing attached to them. One nipple is a vent the other is a drain. The little canister is also part of it. 2. You have a PAIR SYSTEM( that is the other bigger canister ) that sucks in fresh air into the exhaust side of the motor. Now you can take all that emisson stuff off and eliminate a lot of possible problems with Vacuum and tank not venting and get rid of all those hoses and canisters. Do you want to do that I can tell you what to do and what to plug up. Then you will only have a VACUUM LINE going to your PETCOCK and to the ACV valve on the carb which is already connected as such with a "Y" connector so it would be a simple thing you would not have to arrange the main VACUUM hoses going to the carb and petcock. Let me know what you want to do. But I would get rid of the EVAP system if that is plugged it will not allow fuel to flow if the GAS TANK does not vent. Alleyoop I see you put replaced the Carb Drain hose that was leaking with a CLEAR HOSE LINE

Here is how to get rid of the EVAP SYSTEM I labled it #1 #2 #3. Now the #1 hose that is coming straight from the vent connector on top of the gas tank. Take that hose and work it under the SEAT BRACKET there and put a fuel filter on the end of the hose. The only other thing is you need to plug up the VACUUM hose going to the canister on the "Y" #3 and Plug up #2 where it goes into the Air Box. Alleyoop If you want the PAIR system OFF as well let me know:

Cuz I live in California, I don't think I can legally modify the systems. I don't think I could ever sell it...

BUMMER!! well take the petcock off and take the PLASTIC Filter off and now that you fixed the fuel line to go straight to the carb give it a shot. Leave the plastics off and start the scoot and let it idle and watch the fuel filter and see if gas is flowing nicely. Alleyoop

Thanks, and Good Morning! Idling was never a problem...but I'll watch the fuel filter. So'z I got it off. I didn't see the plastic filter at first. (Nice mess, eh?) As a matter of course, I should change the O-ring, no? Is it unique? I have a bunch of regular assorted rings here at the house, but not sure if they will work on a gasoline connection... (I told you I'm new to all of this.) I peeked inside the semi-dry gas tank. Is it supposed to be consistently shiny inside? There appear to be "spots" scattered throughout. Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, Alleyoop, I found your post about installing hazard lights. I thought of them every time my scooter quit on me! That's my next project. < Steve >

Ok.
After 10-12 minutes, I advanced the throttle about 1/8". It seemed like the engine was gonna cough a couple times...it just sounds like, at the first instance, it doesn't know what to do with the influx of gas. Then it revved up to where it should be. Another 1/8": no stuttering, it revved right up.
After 20 minutes of idling; and trying to fine tune the fuel/air flow; it sounds like it did before I started all of this. And it still smells a bit. (I know - it's new...)
The TinyTach hasn't arrived yet.
What else should I take a look at?

So - I guess I'll go ahead and pull off the EVAP system. A couple of questions, if I may...
1. Why put a fuel filter on the end of the hose? 2. Which way does the "flow" go? Into the hose or out of the hose? 3. What do you use to plug up the remaining holes?
Sure, Alleyoop, go ahead and send me the information on removing the PAIR system. Since I have it torn apart, I might as well do what I can to improve my ride.
Thank you very much!

Q2: It is just a Vent for the gas tank it has to be able to get air and breath. Q3: Anything you can use to block them off, the Vacuum hose you can leave a little bit by the INTAKE MANIFOLD bend it and ZIP TIE it shut. The other holes just anything a piece of dowl and zip it it in JB weld etc.. The PAIR system needs a metal plate to block off the hole in the head so you either can make one yourself or buy one: But you take the 2 screws holding it onto the HEAD and also the 2 screws by the valve itself and pull the pipe and part of the valve off and all the hoses and canister off and out. Here is the plug on the head: Here is a plug you can buy:

Thank you!
So-o-o, the direction of the fuel filter makes no difference?
What is the name of the metal piece? Where did you get yours?

Yeah, yeah, first things first...then the trike. Thanks for the link! I eliminated the Y and just ran a hose direct. Just have to find a 3/8 or 1/2" plug for the large hose and it's done! The PAIR system. If I understand you correctly, I will only need the NCY cover and a plug for the hose that goes into the ... exhaust? Black piece of plastic anyway... Appreciate the information and assistance! < Steve >

And the Vacuum hose going to the canister, so if you do all that YOU will ONLY HAVE: 1. a vacuum hose going to the PETCOCK and one hose going to the ACV VALVE on the CARB WHICH it already is there setup.
When your done the VACUUM CONNECTOR on the other side of the INTAKE MANIFOLD should be plugged. The Plugged hole by the HEAD(NCY PLUG) and a plug on the AIR TUBE and your done. Alleyoop

To hide removal of some of the vacuum hoses a person could just leave them in place but stuff a ball bearing of the right size into the hose! Hose stays in place but it is just like it was removed and blocked off. john
