I have a taotao powermax 150 that is fairly new. I had the nut on the end of the crank shaft rattled off, the magneto wheel came off, severed the stator wires, and fried it. I replaced the stator and now have fire on the plug but motor still won't crank. Is it possible that the wheel coming off would've made it jump time?

Did you put in the WOODRUFF key to hold the Flywheel in position? Or did you not find the woodruff key when it came off. If the woodruff key is missing or damaged it is out of time. Alleyoop

Man, great pics lately Alley! I wanted to clarify a couple things. The "magneto" coil is actually part of the stator. It is the dedicated coil that supplies the CDI with AC voltage. If you have a DC fired system the CDI runs off of the battery and there is no "magneto" coil. The stator is not a magneto although it is often mistakenly called that.
The pickup coil sends the impulse to the CDI telling it when to fire. The red arrows show the two bolts that hold the pickup coil in place. It is therefore not adjustable in regards to timing. However, as Alley pointed out, the flywheel, or magneto wheel as Billynew called it, is oriented by the woodruff key and adversely affects the timing if not installed correctly.

Yea i found it and tossed it because it was mutilated and thought it was a chunk from something else so of course i put the flywheel back on and hit it with an impact. tried to take it off this morning and the wheel wouldn't budge so tried a 3 point puller and and theres no room for the hooks so ill try a 2 point on the two inner slots of the flywheel hopefully i can get it off and get a key in it. Thanks

FANTASTIC!! I knew the way you posted and the way it came loose that it probably was left out and you never noticed it. You can order the woodruff keys maybe even a hardware store may carry them for lawnmowers. Alleyoop

is there damage on the shaft where it mounts . I have the keyway , if the shaft is damaged you might have to replace the crankshaft .
Rich , do you remember the pic I sent you with the magneto on the puller , would be perfect here .

Yes I do remember it, it's hiding somewhere on the Bucket. It's also on one of my computers. I'll look for it and see if I can post it here. Thanks.

Not trying to hijack the thread !! JFYI on 2 cycle vespa (or LML made Stella ) scooter engines and their ignition settings : the timing is fully adjustable unlike the 4 cycle GY6 engines where the timing is at a specific fixed postion . Depending on what size engine you have the adjustments can vary from 17 degrees to 23 degrees off TDC (Top Dead Center) . My p200e 200cc engine is set to about 19 to 20 degrees off TDC . willc. ;D

Willc, This is a 4stroke 150cc scoot, nothing special about this motor like some of your wierd 1932 motors. ;D Alleyoop

Turns out there was a crack on the inner part of the flywheel where the key slot is so i have a new one and an assortment of keys. Do you know the exact size of the key?
