Thank you for answering that for me Alleyoop I f I may ,I just have one more question for you. When you R&R the stator, is it common practice to R&R the pickup sensor that is in the same area as the stator? Reason I'm asking is one day the oil hose that leads to the stator compartment had come off and my bike was overheating. Not only due to this but the fan was not working either. I immediately pulled over to find it that way. Lost approx. 50-60% of my oil. Stopped at a gas station and bought some oil and filled it back up after putting it back on with the PROPER clamp but, I'm guessing the damage was done already. Got home and fixed the fan by bypassing the radiator sensor switch. (As per the dealer I purchased it from. Says I don't really need it. So the fan operates as soon as the engine starts and stops when I turn the engine off. Sort of like a car. He says its better and will not kill my batt. as long as the charging sys. is working.) do you have any input on this?

IS your heat sensor working and your gauge telling you if it is getting hot is it working???
If so what I would do is put a toggle switch to the fan so the fan only operates when you turn it on. Reason is say this is that the fan draws a lot of juice and WILL drain your battery really quick if at idle and your charging system is not putting out enough.
When you ride the air should be enough to keep the temp down and will only need the extra cooling when you come to stops and then it depends on how long your stopped. Then you just look at your gauge and if you see it going up you hit the toggle switch to turn on the fan.
IF your sensor is not working and or your temp gauge then you have no option but either to fix the cooling system or hook it up direct to always have the fan come on. my .02 Alleyoop

I have a 83' riva, 180cc air cooled that has had the electric fan wired so that it is on all the time and the draw is not enough to run the battery down in all the years I have owned it. I just do not idle for long periods on purpose and if I did I would run it out on the road for a few miles to bring the battery back up. In the riva there were some bad defects in the automation of the starting and cooling circuits and they have been bypassed long ago keeping this relic on the road.
Once you do put a switch in for the fan if you monitor the charge you may find that you could leave it on all the time with out compromising the battery.

The Helix manual can be used as a reference for the 244cc vertical engine. You'll find the pages that deal with stator issues starting on this page and yes, the continuity test on the stator's "legs" can be done with the stator out of the bike. Specs on the spark plug can be found right here.

Thank you so much everyone for all of your valuable input and time.
Should I R&R the pickup sensor ( ignition pulse generator) as well since it is in the same compartment as the stator and they both were exposed to high heat temps? I would hate to have to go back in when I can just do it now?

Thx everyone for all your help. I put my bike back together but I checked the 3 yellow wires for current and got about 26.0 on the 2 top ones and the bottom I got no reading at all. The yellow wires that I am talking about are the wires that come straight from the stator plug terminal. Is this right? This is a brand new stator. I am also getting a weird noise coming from the belt side when accelerating. Sounds like a loose chain sound inside the cvt cover. When I revved the engine, I got a reading of 12.58. When at rest it reads 12.29. I do not know what could be wrong Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
