I have a 150cc gy6. I have replaced spark plug and coil, CDI, starter relay, starter, carb, intake manifold, new gas, and drained the old, fuel pump and did a valve adjustment. It has a charged battery. It only starts when I add starting fluid to it will only run for short while. First I thought it wasn't getting fuel to the carb so I replaced the fuel pump now I am getting fuel there. I also bypass the alarm system thought that was causing it not to turn over. Now it does. I'am totally out of ideas! Please help!

Since it will only starts when you squirt some starting fluid, that means gas is not being sucked into the motor. Have you adjusted the carbs Fuel Ratio mixture? Did you connect the hoses correctly or are you not sure.. If not take a picture of the carb are and hoses.
1. Turn the Fuel Ratio Mixture Clockwise until it stops do not force it just until it stops and COUNT the number of turns it took to close.
2. Now turn it COUNTER CLOCKWISE 2 1/2 turns and see if it will start. See how that works.
The other possible problem is if it has some miles on the motor the VALVES may need to be adjusted. If they are tight usually the exhaust valve it will not have enough compression and will be hard to start and will not hold an idle. Even if it does once it gets nice and hot it will die when coming to stops. Alleyoop

Thanks for you help. I do believe that I have everything hooked up right. I would post a picture but I dont see where it would upload one. The bike only has 459 miles on it. I adjusted the valves already. I think I have done it right. I dont see any timing marks on it. So i put the big hole in the middle and the 2 small ones even with the cover. I also noticed that I think that there is something wrong with the kick start. I have not been able to start it by that. Also if its not in a good spot the starter will not turn over just makes a noise. I do know that the starter relay and the starter are good I just replaced them. Should I be concerned with how its starting? Today I could not start it even with the spray.

Next question, when you hit the start button DOES IT TURN THE MOTOR OVER QUICKLY or very slow. If Slow then I would say your battery is weak and cannot turn the motor past its compression stroke. If you have a VOLT METER you can test the battery as it sits, It should read 12.5-12.7 just sitting there. If it does and when you hit the start button the battery voltage drops dramatically then your battery has a bad cell and does not have enough power to turn the motor over fast enough. Alleyoop

I have put the battery on a volt meter. Everything is good. Very strong starting noise. Sometimes it is very loud clanky noises. When I'm trying to start it I'm using a battery charger because of the drainage. I saw somewhere where someone took out of the diaphram on the carbuetor and it ran. I'm thinking on trying that tomarrow, will it work?

Clanky noise is NOT GOOD, It may be something in the kick starter in the CVT is binding it. Have you taken the CVT cover off and see if everything is in place. I think we need a VIDEO and or pictures of the CARB area and hoses as well as pictures of the CVT. A VIDEO would be great so we can actually hear it trying to start. You can use PHOTOBUCKET to upload picatures and or VIDEO. For just pictures you can use PUSHPICTURES: OK here is the step by step to use picture push, now you can create a account just like on photobucket or just do like I do use their free download with no account thing. By doing it this way no one can know the picture is yours unless you tell them or put your name in your picture URL. 1 Whatever picture you want to use save it to your computer is you haven’t already, myself for picture push I put it on m y desktop and when through delete it. 2 Now go to the site: picturepush.com/upa3 Hit the browse button and it’ll bring up your computer as it is and choose where on your computer to get the picture, then double click to put your picture on the window and then hit UPLOAD. Whatever picture I want I just put it on my desktop. Here’s the oil fill guide I used on Fox the other day after I just uploaded it and it made this url picturepush.com/host.php?image=11714191 Now choose the size you want and then right click on the direct link and then hit copy shortcut and they make your picture have a url like this www3.picturepush.com/photo/a/11714191/640/11714191.jpg 4 Now once you have this url to make it work on a proboards forum just add the code brackets yourself like this ; Make sure there is no spaces and the brackets are right. Then copy and paste it on any forum and it’s bring the picture up and never be deleted unless you delete it.

I think I was able to post some pictures of the carb. I will have to take off the cover to get to the cvt. and get a video later.

The carb connections look good, but I sure do not like the way it sounds when turning over. I cannot pinpoint the noise, Are you sure the noise is coming from the CVT? It may be coming from your Starter Clutch which is inside the motor. That is the GEAR that your STARTER TURNS to turn the Crank to start it, not fun to change by the way. So to ISOLATE the noise to see if it is coming from inside the motor or something in the cvt the gear ingageing the gear on the crank I would take the CVT off and TAKE THE BELT and VARIATOR off and then crank it. Then you will be able to see if the STARTER gear is interfering If the noise is still there . Alleyoop

Thanks for looking at it. When I got it back together I tried to start it today. The kick starter didnt move very good, would not start either the gears didnt engage. So I figured that the sprocket was bad so I ordered one. I took it all apart agian and the kick starter gear popped off again. Then I noticed that the little pin on the idler gear was snaped off and one tooth gone. So I order one tonight. I think the sprocket behind the fan is ok but Im not sure how to take it off when I turn the nut the whole thing turns belt and all. Do you know how to take that off? I took off the carb and adjusted the float and the needle hoping that it will put more fuel in the bowl. But I havent been able to start it until I get the idler part. Thanks again for your help.

Here is a video of one THAT APPEARS to have had the same noise yours does. Pay attention to what he says about the gear hitting the VARIATOR. Alleyoop

Thanks for the video. I know I have to replace the starter idler it lost a tooth and the key way at the end of the shaft. I should get those parts soon. I also ordered a starter clutch looks like a job to take it off. I'm sure thats a big problem with it starting. It does alot of banging when it trys and now it just does nothing.
