i have kind of a rat rod scooter its a 50 frame with a 150 tank engine and lond case. I would like to make it louder without spending much cash.I don't think you can can just cut off the muffler due to needed back pressure any ideas. I ride this bike daily.

Cut off the muffler and attach a lawn mower muffler. John did that to his Znen with success.

No louder than a lawn mower and if you should get stopped as soon as they see it has the same muffler they have on their lawn mower your good. Cheap and it works, light weight, no big boat anchor bobing around back there.

Mudmobster Please don't do that. The people who don't like bikes ,there biggest complaint is it's so loud. This brings legislation down on us. It doesn't have to be loud to make power.
I can hear a HD come from 30 minutes away, and 98% aren't tuned correctly causing all kinds of popping and back fire.

Thats a Myth that has been busted. Your going forward and the exh. exist's the back. unless echoing off of something at witch sound travels at 767.7 mph roughly you get there before the sound does. Then take into account cars have the windows up with A/C or heat on, Radio playing and a phone in there ear, M/C's riders if smart have a helmet on, 98% of HD riders with obnoxious pipes cant hear you. Then this will bring me to first hand experience with a test session at Daytona. Only one car on the track, no fans only a safety crew, Me standing against third turn wall. As the car came around the track you could here loudly the echo of it's exh. as the car came out of turn two onto the back straight headed directly toward me the car went Silent! Yes the car was running up speed to 200mph, but the first thing I could hear as the Car approached was the force of Wind it was pushing, then the rumble/vibration similar to a Freight Tain or Texas Twister, lastly as the Car was almost upon me was the Exh. sound. Had the same experiences with a test session at the old TWS with Factory Honda Superbikes. Was a very humbling and impressive experience, Still get goose bumps! Respect the peep's who hate bikes and keep them quite. Join the AMA as they are constantly fighting Exh. legislation. lets keep the Feds as much as we can away from our beloved Scoot's. ;D

The best way to stay safe is to ride as though you were invisible. And that don't work when some one or some thing chases you down!

The best way to stay safe is to ride as though you were invisible. And that don't work when some one or some thing chases you down! Owning and riding for 40+ years, I have become a very defensive rider, Carrying this over to cars has kept me out of countless incidents. I look into a car drivers eyes, as his eyes dictate what he is going to do. I left out one personal experience with loud pipes. In my third world Dive travel I have rented countless Honda Elite 80's and 50's. A common problem with them is the head pipe break's at the weld going into the can/muffler. Had one break and had to use it the remainder of my stay was hurtful to me and my passengers ears. I need to dig up a pic of me and my Dad on a Elite 80 with two Bags of complete dive gear. we had that puppy loaded down. Also common to ride four or five on a 80. Did four up with my Mayan Bro. in CZM as he knew I could ride and trusted me with his kids in between my Wife and I. prolly stupid.
