Ok, so put the ENRICHER BACK ON and button that up.
Just re-read your first post, and since you can keep it running BLOCKING the AIR INTAKE means your not getting enough fuel sucked out of the carb. So give the FUEL RATIO screw another fuel turn COUNTER CLOCKWISE. BUT make sure the AIR FILTER IS On the carb otherwise to much air will get sucked in. Alleyoop

it starts off at a decent idle and then slows down. I can give it throttle and keep it going for a moment and then that will bog out and it will die.

just saw your other message. I noticed that the intake is not snug on the carb. I pushed it all the way back up on there but didn't help. The airbox cover is missing, wasn't there when i got it. The foam is still on it however. Would this cause it to be getting to much air?

Ok bud, it appears it is just running off the ENRICHER and the PILOT JET and PASSAGE are clogged. You will need to take the carb off and unscrew the PILOT JET and clean it out and make sure you can see DAYLIGHT through it. THEN you need to clear out the TINY HOLES by the butterfly where the Gas comes out from the PILOT JET they are very tiny about 4 of them. What I do is I get a SPRAY CAN OF CARB cleaner they come with a LONG THIN straw and I leave the PILOT JET OUT and stick the straw in the hole and SPRAY and spray should come out by the tiny holes by the butterfly. Then you know all is clear. Alleyoop

sounds good to me! I've got an extra carb ordered just incase this one is beyond salvage or i mess something up. I'll get to work on this thing tonight and let you know how it goes! But you don't think the missing air box cover will affect it? I really appreciate your help!

WHAT!! missing AIR BOX!!! Of course it will effect it!!! You never said there was no air box on this thing or I missed that point. NO WONDER it runs with your hand over the Air Intake.
SO FIRST fix up the AIR FILTER SIDE you need an AIR BOX or a AIR FILTER on whatever it on there now.
TAKE A PICTURE of the carb area and what you currently have. Alleyoop

It has an airbox, the cover is just missing. It has the tube and the foam and all that. It literally just doesn't have the cover to it. I'll take a picture for you, just to make sure we're thinking the same things. haha

You need a cover for it bud, to much air is getting to the carb. Or do something to cover it up until you get a new Air box or you can get a UNI filter and then just work with the carb it is up to you but you need to cut some air off. Alleyoop

There it is. Ok, i'll cut out some thick cardboard to the shape and fix it to it temporarily. Think that will do the job? Attachments:

You can try the cone filter and maybe get it to work with that. You can always tape part of the cone filter using like 3/4 strips starting from the end of the filter if to much air with it. If need to take off more air just wrap another piece of tape next to the first one and so on.
Wow! that whole thing is a foam part on that air box?? Alleyoop

Maybe this sounds a bit silly but could i do the same thing to the intake down at the airbox? just put a strip or two of tape over it to restrict the airflow until i get the cover? haha

Well you decide which way you want to try the Cone or try fixing up the Air Box. Now you know the AIR box had a INLET HOLE which was not to big to allow air to flow inside the box. Now the Cover was NOT FLAT against the FOAM the cover is about 1 1/2 inchs away from the foam. So if you can fabricate something like that then it might work. Here is an AIR BOX $30.00 bucks:

i'm thinking it will be easier just to order the thing. I really hope it solves the problem! But heck, I'm having fun even if it doesn't! and here's a little more on what it does, maybe help narrow it to the air box a little more. Sometimes it revs higher rpms at lower points in the throttle. Like i can let off just a little and it will rev up a bit then slow back down. Hope that makes sense.
