New day, new problem with the 50cc taotao. It now will start, got all the electrical worked out, and it will not start unless i put my hand over the intake where it comes into the airbox. Then it will slowly just die out. Runs strong for about 15 seconds and then just loses all it's umph. It will continue to run if i put my hand over the intake when it gets weak. I figured it as the carb but there was the metal plug over my air mix screw. Took a small screwdriver and hammer and tapped it out. Adjusted all that and it made a little difference but never enough to keep it running at idle.
Ideas?

did you see if the enricher is working? somebody else like Alley will be along to help you on that. I think in the manuals section theres a thing about the auto-enricher

The problem it is not getting enough gas or to much air. So put the Air Filter back on the carb. Now turn the FUEL RATIO SCREW clockwise until it stops and COUNT the number of turns it took to stop do not force it just until it stops.
Then turn it COUNTER COCKWISE 2 1/2 turns and try that. The Enricher if it is working should also feed it extra fuel. But we can test that out but first try the 2 1/2 turns. Alleyoop

I tried that exact method for adjusting the air mixture awhile ago. No change. I adjusted the valves yesterday and rechecked them today to be sure. I was wondering about the auto choke as well.
I also cleaned out the old gas and put fresh in.

well, i'm going to assume you mean when it ran good, and that i'm not sure. The guy I got it from was kinda weird acting to be honest but I didn't pay much. So, i wasn't that worried about it.

To see if its the ENRICHER: Take the ENRICHER off and lay it on its SIDE and LOOK at it. See if it looks like this NOTICE the PLUNGER it is a little inside the holder. Or does it look like this: NOTICE it is EXTENDED out about 1/4 abway from the holder.

Oh so you bought it and never heard it run. That's ok , If the motor is not shot we can get it going. Alleyoop

You need to take the 2 screws out and then the C clamp around that holds it down. Then let me know how it looks BUT DO NOT PUT IT BACK ON we can try it by hand. Alleyoop

I got the enricher off and it looks like the plunger is nice and snug where it's supposed to be.

Ok so it looks like picture one which is good. In that position it feeds extra fuel. So it has to be the carb OR low Compression since you said you already adjusted the valves. When you start it and it runs for a bit is it running at a good IDLE or low idle?
Can you keep it running if you hold the throttle a little open? Alleyoop
