I bought my 2008 MC 54 250B new in February 2011. That makes the battery about 2 years and 8 months old. I always kept it attached to a battery tender when not being ridden.
Today I went to start the engine, 250CC horizontal, as I have done each week for this summer in south Arizona as the temps are now finally below 100F. I was hoping to begin riding again after 3 months of dreading even going out of the house.
The engine refused to start and the battery refused to turn the engine. When it did try to run it was slow and backfiring, I did get it to run for maybe 10 minutes, I then turned it off. Would not restart again.
Is this typical for these small batteries? I guess I will just have to go buy a new one if typical or not. Riding season is arriving for us in south west desert country. A bit backward for many northern areas.
Just curious as if it is not battery then I will wonder what and why. .

There are many threads on here about batteries.. just look through the them.. you will find one - many- that tell you how to test the battery and see if it is getting charge..the batteries do wear out.. but make sure yout bike is actually charging the battery by following steps...
Your issue sounds more fuel related to me.. if it did run then it should have stayed on even if the battery was low or dead... hook up the multimeter and rule out the battery first

On the 250s a good battery is essential because your CD is DC and is FED 12v by the battery. That is why it is backfiring and not running good. Get your VOLT METER and test your battery. Just sitting there without the motor running it should read 12.5-12.7. The battery is shot probably has 1 or 2 bad cells.
Also batteries are a shot in the Dark, some will last a long time like mine Some only a year or a couple. My battery is still going strong and it is the ORIGINAL battery that came with the Trike and I bought the Trike back in March of 2009. Alleyoop

The battery has to be treated like a riding lawnmower battery. They last about the same time span. You need a new battery and you will be riding again. The battery is a cost of ownership.
