Has anyone run a car tire on a scooter. I know there is a ton of opinions both ways on this, keep them to yourself, not interested in oopinions. Has anyone run car tires on their scooter. If so, please tell me about it, size, type, mileage, etc. I have a 250 Roketa, so it is a 13in. Thank you

No have not run car tires on a scooter , but keep this in mind, car tires are flat across the thread length, while scooter tires you ride on the center of the tires and most of the grip is on each side for turning and swinging back and forth. The only one that could possible take a car tire would be the rear tire but definitly not the front tire. As you can see on the dragstrips they have run a flat across slick tire on the rear and they are very hard to turn. Alleyoop

Yes, I am aware of all of the info on the tires. I have a Honda Goldwing also and it is a very popular thing to do to the larger bikes. It is called "Darkside". If you run a car tire on the rear you are a Darksider, or if you run front and rear, a Double Darksider. There is big long write ups on the pro's and con's of doing it and there are hundreds that chose to run them. The advantage most see is that they get 25-30K out of them instead of 8K miles. There is even a Darksiders web site with forum. You are given a number when you cross over to the Darkside. There is one guy running them on a Silverwing, but that is all I can find.

Some of the big bikes and scooters can run a car tire on the rear. All kinds of pros and cons exist. They do claim a lot of extra miles but I am not sure it is worth the risk. Those who have done it seem to be satisfied but all it requires is to loose it on a curve and you might not be around to discuss the disadvantages of doing it. I rather like using a pirelli with the soft sticky rubbber and having my scooter glued down to the road. The burgman and the majesty forums have stuff on it. Search for dark siding. But I doubt if you would find a small enough car tire for a 250cc scooter though. And if there should be an accident where you were at fault and the other guys lawyer got wind of you darksiding or the insurance co got wind of it.....good luck.

I do not believe running them on scoots will get you 20-30K. Lot of talk but no prove turning into corners and things will wear the tire out on the edges and if you always make more turns to one side the tire will look just like tires on cars that are out of alignment. So don't believe everything you hear. But HEY THAT IS MY .02 Alleyoop
