2T woes....

Okay here's the situation I have run across maybe you guys can help. Last week everything was running great on my scooter (It's a UM 2005 Xpeed 50). I woke up monday to go to class and noticed my headlight was not working. I figured it to be a bad bulb since it had been at least 2 years since I put a new one in,so I went to the local shop and got a new one. Popped it in and it worked so I figured problem solved. The next day I took it out and within 5 minutes of riding the headlight went out. I looked at the new bulb and noticed it was already blown. I took it back to the shop thinking it was a bad bulb out of the box,the owner gave me a replacement and I was on my way. Same day, 5 minutes into the ride the bulb was blown again. Furthermore, my blinkers and taillights stopped working too. I did some reading and some suggested that it may be a bad fuse,I checked the fuse next to the battery and it was fine but had heard stories of a fuse looking fine but being blown so since I had a replacement I popped the new one in,replaced the blown bulbs but my blinkers were still not working. The headlight and taillight blew AGAIN!!! Now aside from being annoyed having to buy new bulbs every single day,it's kinda dangerous to ride with no headlight and taillights. Let me rephrase that, the taillight will come on but when I apply the brake levers...nothing.
What confused me the most is last week everything was working just fine. Headlights, tail and stop lights, and blinkers. So what could have gone so wrong all the sudden on my scoot that I'm blowing head a tail lamps?
Thanks in advance for any response.

You could have a short somewhere in your electrical.

If you have a VOLT METER hook it up to your battery and on the center stand REV it up to around 4K and see what it reads. It could be the Regulator/Rectifier is not working and putting out to much. Also check your ground wires they are the GREEN ONES. Alleyoop

Okay I took the meter out this morning and checked,I'm getting .3V across the battery while running. I'm thinking r/r at this point. All the symptoms are there...the blown bulbs etc. I'm going to go ahead and order a new one and of course some new bulbs and see what happens. I'm definitely getting power from the stator as the voltage jumps when I rev it. I checked my grounds and they all look good. Any other input?

I think you're on the right track with the R/R, personally.

Sweet. I got the part ordered along with the new bulbs so hopefully that will fix this problem.
Thanks for the help guys!

Okay put in the new r/r and new bulbs. The bulbs are blown again, as soon as I revved it the low beam went out and the tail light went out. Tried to hi beam,it blew as well when I revved it. I'm going to check my grounds again but right now I am stumped for sure.

ALL of those bulbs are on the same ground wire, AND the same hot wire, So you might have a short across the wire at ANY bulb. Check the grounds at Every Bulb, I know on mine, the ground wire was just stuck in the bulb holder. I put a flat terminal crimp on mine and cut a small slot in the side, and put it in along side the bulb. But since its not the r/r, I guess it could be the stator? How much does the voltage jump when you rev the engine?

PS I would try the last bulb on YOUR electrical since both the HIGHBEAM, LOWBEAM, BRAKE, but its weird your tail-light is ok?

When you rev it on the center stand what are the volts the meter says the R/R putting out? If it is high over 15v or higher the R/R is the problem. Alleyoop

I'm pretty sure it's not the stator.I read somewhere that if your stator is bad you won't get a spark at all to start the engine and I've tried the electric start and the kick start and I get spark on both. Now,as far as the tail light goes,it of course is now blown but when I put it in and before I revved it up the light would burn but when I pressed the brake handle it wouldn't get brighter....ie the second filament would not light in the 2 filament bulb. I will check the r/r again and see if they sent me a bad one...well once this crappy weather let's up....I will also check the ground on every bulb as well since now I know they are all running off the same hot and ground. Any other suggestions?

Okay now I'm really confused...put a meter on it yesterday and I was getting no change in voltage across the battery or the light sockets...so it would lead one to believe it was a problem with the stator...but,if that's the case how exactly did the bulbs blow to begin with? I've got a low steady voltage (about 1.5v) across the light terminals which would be enough to light the bulb but far from enough to blow it. So now I'm very perplexed. Checked grounds anyhow and found none of the wires were stripped or touching. Only possible thing I can think of is a loose ground on the stator but I'm going to have to check that on another day when I have time to take it apart and get into there.
Right now I really just want to drive the damned thing into the CF river and walk away. So aggravated.

Your not listening and testing RIGHT, I said test the battery. Hook up the volt meter to your battery and set it to 200 on the DC scale. Sitting there it should read 12.5 to 12.7 VOLTS. Then REV it up the meter should read HIGHER tell us what the METER says the VOLTS are when you rev the motor up.
That test will tell you if you have a BAD R/R or a short someplace. Alleyoop

Did you check the bulbs to see if they were actually burned out?

If you squeezes the brake and the taillight blows you have a bad ground at the taillight sockets(THE ALL GREEN WIRE). Alleyoop
