Usually when you lose compression all of the sudden it is a valve stuck open or a blown head gasket. Could also be bad rings but I would check out the valves first.

Time to get a wrench and the feeler gauges out and set valve clearances.

jct842 He mention the engine turning over as if it had no compression. You can check spark with out removing the plug so surmised he had not check it. You never know.

Make sure that you bring it up to TOP DEAD CENTER before adjusting the valves. The way you just described it, it was NOT at TOP DEAD CENTER. What you described bottom valve loose and top tight, the top valve is the INTAKE VALVE so that was pressed open and it is on the INTAKE STROKE to suck in fuel and air. Turn the motor over by hand using a wrench on the FLYWHEEL or VARIATOR and get the CAM SPROCKET lined up like this: THEN ADJUST BOTH VALVES to .004 inchs. Alleyoop

And also.. Those chinese TDC marks are not accurate. I took my cylinder head off and found absolute TDC and adjusted my cam as alley prescribed.. Made my own timing marks on the flywheel after finding ( The Real TDC ) To get the Cam marks right as Alley showed ya . Make sure you dont have a broke tensioner
