I bought this muffler about six months a go. It actually made my scooter a lot quieter. Since then it has gotten louder.(even louder since the BBK) I heard that because i have a two stroke it eventually fills the baffles with oil?? the canister does come off but not apart.any ideas on how to clean it or where to get a replacement?...I only ask cause the wife is like its to loud....I guess she wants a stealth scooter....

I can understand your wife's position. My scooter is LOUD also. Check the advertising vendors at the top of the forum. One of them should be able to fix you up. Remember to tell them you are a member here. Some will give discounts.

Old cars with glasspack mufflers that burned a lot of oil would coat the packing with carbon and eventually the fiberglass packing would burn out.
It was also a common practice to fill the glaspacks with oil and burn them out with a torch so that a driver could show the police that they actually had 'mufflers' and were not running an open exhaust.

Are you sure it is not leaking where it connects to the motor? Alleyoop

Every year on my old Kawasaki 500 two stroke I had to remove the muffler baffles and then take off the fiberglass packing around them. Then the fun. I took a Burnsomatic torch and started burning off the carbon. Once it got a little white you took a wire brush and cleaned off the now loose carbon. Failing to do that would plug the baffles and performance would drop off until the engine wouldn't run. Sort of like a banana in the exhaust pipe. If you're feeling adventurous I would pour gas or charcoal lighter fluid inside and set it aflame....off the bike of course.

Yeah alley i am sure its not leaking anywhere.. i put a new gasket on and the muffler fits really well. I saw a post on a threat a while back that this happens with two strokes. My wife said it was getting louder, so i checked and yeah she was right...and with the new BBK it is really loud. I guess some of them you can take apart and clean the canister. mine is welded on one end and riveted on the other. I thought about soaking it and trying to like flush it out but I don't think that is a super idea. Its just disappointing it used to be really quiet when i first put it on. I only paid a hundred bucks for it so...but i don't wanna spend the extra bucks on a more expensive muffler if its just going to happen again.. The idea the oil in the mix might clog it up sounds feasible... but i would think it would take a long time

Dude, read the above. I had to do it the first time at 8,000 miles and two years. It was really clogged then. The oil gets on the baffles and bakes to a carbony hard shell. I found a lot of deposits on my annual cleaning and I was only doing about 5 or 6,000 miles a year. Plus engine note changes as an engine breaks in. All my bikes have acquired a deeper growl with mileage.
