look into thernodynamics , the air crossing or passing through a convector , the slower the air moves past/over the greater the energy transfer (heat) . In a hydronic heating system the slower the liquid travels the more heat it will give up (an increas of delta T ) the faster the liquid passes through the system will have a decrease in delta T . It is the same with air cooling/heating . The volume of air at a moderate velocity (speed) will have the best cooling ability based on surface area . Rich I have not commented on this before , the fins you attached to the fins on the head has increased the surface area. I thought that was needed for extra heatsinking , because the shroud was removed that was forcing air over the engine . I think the best would be to attach/bolt thicker conductive metal all around the engine that will allow heat to transfer to and be in the draft of air . (think cooking the better pans have copper and or aluminum because they conduct heat best)

oh cast irion pans that take longer to heat up and stay hot longer , they have less conductive ability . they get hot it takes more energy to get them hot (holding heat) they take longer to cool as well , They are less conductive .

I knew I was going to get a responce from the above post , I must say you did surprise me EM in your contribution , I belive the best solution will be more surface area , the down side would be wind drag .
I'm not certain where you guys say the concentration of heat is , can you guys show me ? I think the lower part of the engine near the oil filter and side drain plug , if you can add surface area that would sink somemore heat and maybe lower your oil temp .

I plan to try heat pipes and heat sink fins...on the outside/bottom of the case... simply passive heat transfer devices. I think the cam chain channel works like a chimney in a GY6 and concentrates the heat there... www.amecthermasol.co.uk/AmecThermasolPressfinHeatSinks.htmlDon't know if it will have any effect but it should...

the whole idea of the vortex choke , when using compressed house air into the choke one side hot and one side cold they work well , when you have 125psi of air and a hundred gallon tank . You could use it for cooling all day long . I wonder how well the fan on the flyweel works as a vortex choke .

Mr sprocket , I like the link you have posted the product looks good for cooling , my only concern is heat rises cold falls , also the connection between the pan and the heatsink would need to be as tight as the ground on the engine to the battery (for connection and convection or conduction of heat . Would you be useing that wite heatsinking compound , How would you attach the heatsink to the oil pan ? John

gee I guess we are looking to reinvent the wheel here, what I see here is when BBK's are installed things start to heat up more . I was just wondering when oil temp became so important . From I have learned in here is stay off WOT and run on the rich side .
What has peeked my interest is what JR stated about alumimun welding . JR I would like to know more about it, I do braze copper and brass using a Btank . About 15 years ago I bought a $10 or $15 kit to solider aluminum , I have not used it . So JR what is involved in the prep and what kind of heat source do you need to do this type of welding ?

I spend too much money on stuff from American Science & Surplus. They stock all kinds of gee gaws and gadjets. They sell Peltier heat pumps for under twenty bucks. It makes you wonder why the powers that be haven't moved towards these types of basically free energy. Oh yeah, that's right, big oil is paying for all those campaigns...silly me . By the way, great thread, who started this puppy?

Yup I built a free standing pellet wood burning stove that used Peltier Chips...also used a small 12 volt battery and photovoltaic array... you need power to start the stove until there is a heat differential...
VERY cool stuff these chips...they are now used in those portable food coolers too...
I know they were looking at these in pellet stoves commercially but they never came to market...easier just to plug them into AC...
We will see what the future holds...

I have to get an oil cooler up and going quick methinks. The last dose of Castrol in the motor was black within 250Km. I had planned in advance to go with this: www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-70273/I switched to Motul 3000 this last fill, so we will see what transpires.

Scooter case... use a mig or tig welder...this stuff is brazing... for really light materials...

very interesting it claims to be good for cooper and brass , I might try it for sealing leaks in refrigerant systems
