I don't have to worry about riding in or on anything till next week. I don't even have a car here, left it at GFs place and talked a friend with a big 4x4 to take me home yesterday. Sounds like only the main roads only are a little passable. Thought I retired far enough south to miss this crap! Good he did as I doubt if he could have made it in here today. john

Any thing white on the ground is bad.....it isn't even winter yet. 8 to 10 inches on the ground on top of a layer of ice. I went to the va in fayetteville for a screening/ekg and I was an hour early. A 2 hour trip, they rushed me thru and out. I went 5 miles when the crap started coming down, some 4 hours later I could not get up the dirt road from blacktop so went to GF place and parked my car and called a friend who was able to get me a .5 mile from my home. I could have stayed but I have a dog, cat, and a rescued squirrel that is 3 1/2 mo old now and still unable to be released. My dog found a shriveled up baby squirrel barely able to crawl the size of a chipmonk in the yard last sept that was covered with fleas so I took her in, cleaned her up and fed her. Now she is !/2 grown, tame and not very street smart and will probably have to wait till spring to turn her out.
This is yankee weather we have here some thing the north needs to reclaim! john

Not to make fun or anything John. 8-10 inches here is snow flurries. Getting a couple of feet of the stuff is normal. They must have delivered that to the wrong address. I'm sure they'll correct it quickly and come and melt it for you.

Around here it is crippling. I know all about lots of snow and driving on it, I came from up north and retired here. Driving 70 on snow packed roads is no big deal up there but try going 20 or 30 around here and you might end up in the ditch. It is like driving on stp or grease packed roads. Covered boat docks are sinking. Several big lumber yards storage buildings came down too. They were not built for heavy snow loads. The only one that likes it is the dog, I have a 130 lb Great Pyrenees that is usually a house dog and he wont even come in the house now. john

Well, if you're not accustomed to it, 8 to 10 inches of snow over ice could be very overwhelming, yes. Be safe, John. The dog's having some fun anyway!

8-10" over ice would be a lot here too. We get that every other year or so. Flurries here are usually under 1". One to two inches of ice is not unusual either. The 'ice belt' KC used to be in has moved South and East.
I keep a backup generator handy also. Since my service transformer is on a main distribution line I am usually not out of power long. If a tree brings down my overhead service I may be out for a while. I have provided power to a couple neighbors when their service was out to keep the furnace and refrigerator working.
I am not riding anywhere either. It is 10°F out there!!!!
