So after not riding for 9 months I decided to start my black bi*ch. Well there was nothing but clicking. I checked the battery (new today) starter, switch and coil. All are good and tested on another scooter. Normally with just getting a clicking sound I think battery or starter but it not the case today.

Any suggestions?

Did you charge the battery before using it?

Is the large red wire from the battery to the starter solidly connected on both ends? Are the crimped ends good?

what parts are new , and what parts were tested on another scooter ?

Does the engine turn freely either by hand or on the kickstart ?

is it chinese? if yes?....then that answers all your questions!!! LOL!


Squirt some amount of gas directly inside the chamber(spark plug hole), then kickstart it or electric start it,,,if it fires up then the problem would definitely be fuel system...90% of the time clogged and dirty carb is the main culprit when scooter was stored for a long period of time. good luck!!

I cleaned the carb and changed the oil prior to attempting to start.
The battery is new and I tested the parts from my scooter to another and they work fine. I also test the parts from the donor scooter on mine and got the same results as I did with my parts. I would love to kickstart it but i took that off years ago since it was un-needed weight

And yes Luke it is chinese and thats not the issue. I put over 25000 miles on the old engine with no real issues. This one just really dont like the bbk i put on it last year.

I am going to go thru all the wiring tonight and rewire if i have to. I redid the harness like 2 yrs ago with marine grade wiring so I dont think corrosion is the issue...we will see

The salt in the air has done alot of damage over the last 9 months. The front brake was full of sludge and the throttle cable was frozen.

If you push the Start Button and you hear CLICKING sounds, that is your SOLENOID clicking. Only a few things will make that sound.
1. Weak Battery
2. Bad Solenoid

Give the Solenoid a whack and try again if still clicks, then JUMP the two terminals on the SOLENOID and if your battery is good it will spin your starter and start.
If it spins your starter then you need a new SOLENOID.

Whack it with a hammer is old school. I thought I was the only one that did stuff like that. LOL

OP- Since the problem did not move with any part you changed the problem is in a part you didn't change.

Salt air is nasty stuff. Most of the problems on my scoot were due to exposure on the container-ship and in a warehouse in LA.

Old school is right, the contacts inside the solenoids are known to stick and not move. But it usually happens after it makes contact with both terminals from the inside and do not release and it keeps on spinning your starter and run down your battery to say the least.

If he would have posted and put the question before changing anything and mentioned it Clicking he would have saved himself some money. Clicking when pushing the start button only comes from the SOLENOID nothing else on the scooter.

The only money spent since trying to refire this pig is the battery, and that was because I gave mine away 9 months ago when I thought I was done with the scooter thing.
Remember I had 4 scooters this time last year and I sold all but my black one.

My new scoot had a wet cell battery that was sickly from the start. I could never get it to take more than just a 'surface' charge. The battery had one cell that just would not work. I was impatient and did not want to wait for a replacement under warranty so I installed an old used sealed lead acid (SLA) out of a computer UPS unit. It no longer had the capacity to run the UPS but it did just fine for the scoot. It is still working great. I got rid of those crappy bolted connections at the same time and converted everything over to 1/4" spade lugs. The local parts store wanted over $50 for a new wet cell but a 12V 7AH SLA replacement can be had for $15 online.

I still have the warranty replacement wet cell sitting dry on a shelf. I have a set of bolt-on 1/4" spade lug adapters in my parts box.

ok so I finally got around to messing with this POS again bought a new solenoid and charged and tested the battery. The battery is good and fully charged but I am still getting the dreaded clicking sound. I went thru the wiring and all seems fine, I then jumped the terminals on the solenoid and got nothing..no spark no noise nothing. I checked the battery again and its still at full charge. I changed the CDI and the stator from the running scooter and got noithing as well.

I have a devil scooter that is looking to be pushed off the cliff in my backyard.

if you jumped the solenoid and still nothing then i would be looking at either broken positive cable to the solenoid or to starter or the starter itself.
