I have a 06 Eagle 150 that I am doing an 11 pole stator upgrade on and my question is do I keep the one wire resistor for the 11 pole stator and 7 wire rectifier? If so then what is its function in this system and where does it need to connect? The last time I had to deal with a ballest resistor was in an old points and condenser ignition system. Tvnacman is sending me the stator and rectifier so I'll def ask him. Thanks for any help!

We have 2 ballast resistors on our Sym 50s, I`ve also come across them on a few 125`s. All had an AC lighting system and the resistors were wired into the lighting circuit as the voltage feeds came straight from the stator, ie: unregulated. Its purpose as far as I know is to take any excess voltage and store it whilst converting it to heat and dissipating it into the air to prevent the bulbs from burning out. The secondary one on our bikes is wired into the autochoke system to again prevent the unit from burning out as it also gets it`s feed direct from the stator. Some later bikes had autochokes with a built in resistor, so only one was required for the lighting system.

Good point on the auto choke. I'm doing away with it and the lights will be converted to DC. The resistor plugs to one green/black. When I test that wire it ohms out to ground. The one wire resistor ohms out 6.1 so I don't know. I shouldn't need it anyway cause I have fabed a direct injection for cold starts with a primer bulb like on a weed whacker and a small nozzle in the intake tube right in front of the carb. Works great! I am going to block of the fuel circuit in the carb for the auto choke. My system might be old school but it has not failed in 3 months. Thanks for the info man!

on 07 and older scooters they were used to load the ac circuit as Rob stated . The regulators were not clamping down on the ac voltage to keep from damaging whatever is on the ac circuit . After 07 the regulators changed and the lighting circuit is clamped down via the regulator . Now with all the copying the Chinese do with all the parts its a crap shoot to find them . The very best I have been able to figure out testing is , one regulator holds the ac circuit well and will overcharge the battery . I have seen it the charging voltage go up words of 16VDC .

But with ac voltage only going to the rectifier and everything from there being DC do I still need one?
