I have this 2008 peace sports that REFUSE to start When i first got it a year ago it would start with the electric starter or kick starter. Then it quit starting with the electric starter and would only start with the kick starter no matter what i did. And yes the starter was good and had a brand new battery in it. It would randomly lose fire and i tracked that down to the wire going to the coil was corroded. Now it wont start at all I replaced the cdi box, stator and pick up, and ignition switch and it started firing. Also I installed a 58.5mm bbk, high compression valves in a reworked head that was ported and polished, titanium valve springs, oko 28mm carb and intake,10gm weights and the stock cam because the A15 had a coil bind on the exhaust spring so i ordered a A12. Got it to start once and that was it! The starter will spin over and kick back like a angry mule and the kick starter if you kick it right it will kick over. BUT all it will do is back fire through the exhaust like a .22 rifle and mat spit through the carb every now and then but that's it. The valves are set at .19 on the intake and .26 on the exhaust. cam was set with piston at tdc and the two lines straight across the top of the head and the hole in the gear pointing foward. What am i missing?!? I'm ready to burn it to the ground.

Sounds like your timing is off or the valves are not adjusted properly. Not sure what specs you are using, but my Linhai 257 has the valves set at .004 intake and .006 exhaust.

I got those specs from off the web........... I knew they sounded a little loose but that's what it said. It acts like the timing is off for sure but i have set the cam, then move it one tooth forward and backwards and nothing. And the stator and pick up only goes one way. I'm going to try to reset the valves like you said but is it possible for the chain to strech long enough to cause it? Or maybe the cam gear has slipped on the cam? I have never had a engine kick my butt like this one is..............and i have been building engines sense i was ten and i'm 37 now.

Okay, so I adjusted the valve to your settings and still nothing. It doesn't seem to kick back as much on the electric starter or on the kick starter though. I installed 58.5mm high compression bbk, high compression stainless steel valves and titanium springs, valve set was cut and the head was ported to match the 30mm intake and the exhaust head pipe, new stator and pick up with cdi box. Adjusted the valves again this morning to .004/.006, it has 120psi compression on the new kit, fresh gas, new spark plug that has a big blue spark, I just don't know what i'm missing or over looking. About to just buy a new motor if this thing keeps up

Go back to the last thing you did before it quit running good. It never really ran good it just ran. That's why i built the top end over the way i did. sometimes it would start right up, then it may take a while, then it may not start at all. Well when it wouldn't start this time at all that's when i went through the whole top end.

Okay here is the deal. I think i found my problem. If i remove the spark plug and place it on the head i get a pretty blue spark until......i put and type of gas on it whats so ever, starter fluid or carb cleaner then i have nothing! no spark! at all! But i can remove the same spark plug and place it on my sons 70cc dirt bike and do the same thing and it will ignite whatever i put on it. So i have weak fire for some reason. Why? new stator and pick up, spark plug, and cdi box. maybe the coil is getting weak or a bad ground? Back to the butt cutting and will post back later with what i find.

swap the coils see what you get . John That was it! I took one off of a chinese dirt bike and it started right up. I should have known this but guess i thought on it too hard. I did order a new hi performance one for it when i got the rest of the parts but it has not come yet. I guess that's why i got my butt kicked. Sorry to have been a bother, i guess i just needed to talk it out to figure it out. Thanks everyone for your help.
