Hi, everyone. I have a Velocity 150cc scooter; it had been sitting in my garage for about 2 years without it being charged. Today I cleaned it up and did small maintenance on it such as changing the oil and gas.
I went to charge it, however, the battery charger remains on green and tells me that the battery is already charged. The scooter does not turn over at all, nothing can be heard from it.
Does this mean I should buy a new battery?
One small thing is that yesterday the charger was red and after maybe 20-30 minutes the charger turned green again.
Today I check the charge again, and it's still green. Another thing is that when I turn the key for the ignition (I don't know what else you call it), hold the left brake, and click the ignition button, the battery charger goes red and stays red until perhaps 20-30 minutes. This is why I thought the battery was not dead.
Is this normal behavior for a battery that needs to be replaced?
Thanks!

you need to measure the voltage from the battery .

Hi. I don't have a multimeter, is there a way to tell without testing the voltage it's able to work?

The two years with out a charge more than likely did in your battery. A multi-meter is not very expensive and is a necessary thing for scooter maintance. You can usually find one for less than $10, Some times harbor freight even gives them away with a $10 purchase at the stores....they did a few years ago and I was able to get two free ones. If a battery is real discharged some chargers will not even come on and a lot of them act goofy too when they are discharged all the way. john

Yes, your battery is dead, you are probably using a BATTERY MAINTAINER CHARGER which will NOT try and charge up a dead battery but will show green because it is only surface charge it is reading. Alleyoop

i had a similar issue after letting my scooter sit for a year. i figured since it had a new battery i could just charge it full with my charger and be good. well it worked but it wouldnt hold that charge for more than 24 hrs and i could only about 3-4 starts out of it before it needed to be charged again. I agree with Alleyoop. I'd say its time for a new battery. I just got one myself good luck

On the 50cc and 150cc scoots the charging system is not the greatest and in my opinion the charging system may not be able to fully charge the 12ah battery. I would get a 9amp battery over your 6amp old battery. Just make sure to check the SIZE so it will fit in the battery compartment also make sure the battery you get is RATED OVER 100 CCA's(COLD CRANKING AMPS).
Also that battery charger will work but at 1 amp it will take quite a while to charge up a battery. And if you need to jump the battery it will not do that, but if you also have a car you can always jump it using the cars battery and or a friends car battery. Alleyoop

Just don't jump off a car with the car engine running! The voltage some times gets higher than the scooter can stand.

I would also go with a 12V 9Amp battery. Go for a AMG if possible. Also get yourself a Battery Tender. but the actual name brand battery tender. Works great. Also if you go to store your scooter you can hook it up every few weeks to keep up the battery.

Hey, again! I was looking for different batteries to purchase when I started to think about what other things might need fixing after the amount of time my scooter's been inactive.
Before I actually buy a battery and find out something else doesn't work on the scooter, can anyone tell me what I should expect to have to attend to on a scooter that's been sitting in my garage for approximately 2 years?
I've already given it new engine oil and gas, but aside from the battery, I'm not sure what else!
Thank you!

Listen, don't stress. I left my scooter in the garage for a year with a cracked cylinder head. I changed the head, reassembled it and charged the battery. It fired right and hummed. Unless there was something wrong when you parked it, the scooter will be fine. WITH a new battery of course.

If you left it with gas in the tank and the carb You will need to clean out the carb, it will be all varnished up and the tiny passage holes will be clogged. Alleyoop
