went to the junkyard yesterday (as I do periodically to see if theres anything good) and ended up coming home with this for $20. 2008 50cc Jonway. layed down on the right side. plastics broken but all there except seat. missing key. today, I worked on it in the barn and found that I had spark even without the key. the wiring had been messed with and weirdly, the kill switch will still kill it even though the key wont. had been laying in its left side for an undetermined amount of time and the CVT cover is being stubborn coming off. its also full of dirt. it ran with a new plug ;D. it constantly spins the back wheel so I have a feeling that the dirt is everywhere in the clutch bell and is jamming it up. ill have to clean the cover out once I get it off. ive been having to use the kick start because the starter bendix is stuck in the retracted position. the starter only spins when a screwdriver is jammed across the solenoid. headlight&tailight work and that's all. no other lights. also being from a salvage yard, it is unregisterable so im gonna have to just use it to ride around the yard and in our trails we have in our field. ill get better pics later as its raining now. this is the pic of when I got it home in the back of the truck.

I'm glad to hear it still functions. It's amazing that a cheap scooter will still serve as faithful piece of transportation even after a stupid owner abused it so badly. Keep us filled in on the progress.

dumb owner ran it almost out of oil. first thing ik checked. has a college parking permit on the back so they probably never even checked it let alone changed it.

I'm beginning to believe, from a short ownership and the stories here, that the 50cc GY6 is the best of the Chinese engines. It seems to be that they are pretty durable in stock form and have the least fluky issues. I know there was guy years ago at SD who lived in Florida and had over 10,000 miles after only a couple of years.

I will go with that about the 50cc gy6. I have said it before too. The problems begin on some of them when a know it all starts fixing what ain't broke. And some of the big bore kits. And adding high wattage head lights. And so on. john

im gonna take all the plastics off and repaint and make it ruckusish ive got some ten inch knobby tires from a old honda trail bike that should fit on the original rims. the headlight assemblys not in such good shape so im thinking of using an old driving light. tailights broken aswell. may use an old trailer taillight for that. all dc powered stuff on the scoots dead. im not gonna even try to figure it out. it still charges the battery and will probably electric start by crossing the solenoid wires once i clean out the variator case. all ac powered stuff still works. ill post more later

hey now it runs and the plug i added was a used one i had lol. it should move on its own without much trouble. cheap scoots are hard to find around here. with a college nearby you can charge more for a scooter.

Hey lantern, it looks rough around the edges but it fires. You can fix it up like you said and run it in your fields. Have some fun with it!

thanks Mark. that video has the airbox apart. once I dried the element, It ran without the idle running up and down. runs pretty good, in fact. Twowheeler, I wasn't mad at you if you thought I was. I was joking. I tend to do that a lot LOL

one thing I forgot to add was, the plug that was in it was loose and it had been run that way awhile. surprised it didn't do something to the threads in the head.
