Hey all I have absolutely no experience with vespas at all ,now with the knowledge that this scoot I bought has under 100 miles will the engine smooth out considerably with break in? I know it's not counterbalanced and it's not nutty but there is a good amount of vibration especially around idle and smooths out after about 3000 rpm will this improve? I would imagine it will and I'm not looking for dead smooth but any input would be appreciated

It is just that the fuel ratio needs to be adjusted for a better mixture to get a smoother idle. It could be set to LEAN or to RICH. But your dealer is near take it over there and they will smooth it out for you. Alleyoop

I have a wild idea about that. The scooter has been sitting forever and is brand new. It's possible that it has rubber bushings that suspend it like a car motor mount. Those rubber bushings might have hardened over time and will need a while to break in. Ride it.

You may want to read this and this. It looks like they have some inherent vibration that folks put up with. I guess it seems like a little vibration is a minor thing when the rest of the scooter is beautiful and bulletproof.

90% of the vibes go away after 3000rpm and I took it for a little rip today after work,,, I must say it's pretty quick,,, i'm not used to the tiny wheels yet tho,, it's a total cartoon till I hit 10mph or so,,, very nimble bordering on twitchy

Too funny davec,,pathetic but true,,,i'm a specialty wood finisher,,i restore antiques and finish alot of these huge barns in california (kitchens and libraries and the like),,it astounds me how dealers will shrug off a clients concerns all AFTER the sale of course,,i get clients call me years after a jobs completion,,we attend to it if it's not catastrophic damage,,,no charge to them,,i'm a service oriented business and i have people that do multiple repeat business with me,,because of it,,dealers (or should i say stealers) would do alot better if consideration to a clients concerns and needs were met with professionalism instead of viewing it as a burden ,,,

Years ago I would do tune up's on cars (points, plugs, condenser, cap rotor, adjust timing [with a timing light]) but, it got bad, when , any time after I worked on the car , and, say, the brakes would go bad, it was my fault cause I was the last one that worked on it.
I have a 2002 Honda Shadow Sabre, with Hydraulic valves. A mechanic at a shop I had some work done on it recommended the valves be adjusted. I told him they were self adjusting . He insisted. I never went back. But.....'that's normal'

Well I never did get the new scooter home yet it's still at my shop and have been buzzing it around,,, and by the odo I've gone three miles in my parking lot!!! And boy has it smoothed out as far as the vibration,,, and I'm sure it will get even better with a few thousand miles

It's kinda like it's stretching in the morning. It's now just beginning to limber up. It will probably get even better with a few runs commuting
