I have to disagree a little. I owned a Kawasaki W650 for ten years. Nice bike but it just didn't float my boat. Everyone told me, "Hang on to it. It's rare and it's worth lots of money." I decided to sell it eventually and waited, and waited for eager throngs to flood my mail box offering to buy it. Eventually a nice girl bought it for $2600.
Japanese bikes are all mass produced. They're not Vincents, or pre-war Indians. Luke's scooter is only worth what enjoyment he gets out of it. I see dopes asking ridiculously high prices for Honda Big Ruckuses. They don't get them either. Maybe in fifty years they'll be worth something, but only because they're old. Nobody's getting rich selling 1960s Honda Dreams either.
My CF Moto Fashion might be worth something some day when the Chinese have a huge share of the market. It will be a perfect example of how the Chinese made a copy of another bike. Of course by then mine will have over 75,000 miles and be pretty worn.
It will be different for you Borg. Vespa is the Harley Davidson of scooters. The mystique that hangs over the brand transcends its mass production. An ET-4 is a slightly different bird than an LX 150 and will have those who wish the difference paying a premium. If all Vespa 150s become three or four valve, water cooled and twin OHC then you know that the desirability of simple Vespas will increase. Yet used Helix, Reflex, Burgman, Morphous or Silver Wings will all depreciate and become as valuable as a 1974 Kawasaki Z-1. Not very.

BUT KZ,,,how much did you pay for w650?,,,i'll bet you got your money back or close to it ,,,i'm not saying bathtub boy is going to make a killing with that turkey,,but some other idiot will fall in love with that loadstone and simply must have it,,,early super clean japanese stuff is starting to demand a premium,,and believe it or not alot of it is going back to japan,,,look at what's happened to triumph bonnies even tigers,,,stupid money,,i would take one as a gift only to sell,,,people romanticize these things in their head,,totally forgetting what a pile o' sh*t they were,,i used to race flat track in my youth so all the bluster surrounding harley's street bikes is lost on me,(,wouldn't mind having an xr750 for the street but that ain't happening anytime soon ) ,,i agree with you wholehartedly on the vespa /harley mystique thing but i still don't understand it,,and i won't even take a bet on the CF moto,,,you probably will get 70 thou out of it,,,and having a blast doing it

I paid $4200 in 2002 and sold it 10 years later after 20,000 miles. I only made money by my estimate of dollar return per mile. I've seen people ask ridiculous prices for them unsuccessfully. Maybe if you have a first year CB 750 you might make some real money. I also owned a 1974 H1 500. I bought it new for $1475. I see people selling them now for 4000 2014 dollars. That's less than what 1475 1974 dollars is worth today. Bathtub Boy should ride it to death. Today's Japanese bikes may be worth a bundle in the year 2200, but I wouldn't bet on it. A Vespa is another story. See this? www.salvagescooters.com/piaggio.htmAt the bottom is a 2012 Piaggio Fly 150. It has the same, exact engine as a Vespa LX 150. Even Vespa powered scooters don't hold their price as well as the real deal.

Of all the old motorcycles I always liked the dream. Probably the first successful jap bike. It had a sheet metal welded frame, my brother had one in white and I never got to ride it. Guess cause it was so different is what I saw in them. In those days honda was really trying hard to sell them and get acceptance in this country.

i like vespa, its performance is superb, a friend of mine rode from Sd to lake tahoe 12hrs straight using his Gtv 300.? awsome performance. the only thing i dont like bout it is the appearance, it looks like a womans scooter no matter who rides it. and the front fender is just blocking the wind, not Aerodynamic. but other than that the quality is very high. but tell me guys which scooter looks more "LOSER" in this picture?? ... well, you can include the rider too, LOL!!! hahaha! kinda late here, but i wouldnt be lying if i said id rather have the one on the right. it actually looks like a scooter

its ok lanternscoot,,, your opinion counts but not to be taken seriously because your'e a lantern collector, not an expert scooter rider, so i 'll give that one to you. a lantern collector on a scooter forum? hmmm no connection at all, other than theyre both run by petroleum... lol

Thanks for the recommendation Lantern dude. It's why only Scooterdepot has a Morphous clone. Of course they sell more Italian style scooters like mine.

funny, maybe lanternscoot finds your scooter shaped more like a lantern, wait till he sees your fashion scooter. omg, i really hate the looks of a Honda Helix, looks like a duck, has a beak in front.. but i like it's performance.i mean the real Helix.,,not those, those, those copycat clones..lol
respect my Opinion pls

He's just jealous John. The Helix was cloned, part for part, the first time Honda stopped selling it. Not only that but the worldwide cry to resume production made Honda start selling it again. No one is complaining about the Morph disappearing off the planet. Of course the Chinese improved it as evidenced by the fact that the repro is more expensive than most Chinese 300s.
