OH yeah,,like i've been saying all along,,,,barring any gigantic materials problems with proper care and maitainence there's no reason a chinese scooter can't return good mpg and very high miles,,,the modern designs and with the new machine tooling anything can happen and i mean anything,,,i think it's great!! competition improves the breed,,,

When I was considering a gy6 engined scoot I had new built cammed big valve head balanced and blueprinted engines sourced for under a grand,,, I know for a fact that you can get serious numbers out of that mill,,, I found four valve heads,,, everything,,, actually the et I have has much less aftermarket parts availability

As you know there are some basic things that are tradeoffs. A kitted Harley will run like the wind, for a season. If I want or need more speed there are whole motorcycles out there for less than a grand. I would rather have a maintenance free, or at least fiddle free ride, than more speed. I saw a 2003 Buell on CL for $2300 the other day. A Buell for heaven sakes! If I mounted soft bags on it I'd have the basic carrying capacity of a 250cc Japanese scooter and enough speed to soil my pants. OK, not the one I meant but close enough. newhaven.craigslist.org/mcy/4284261638.html

I may have to get a chinese scoot to hot rod when i sort out the et,,,i think i may just leave it alone it is quick & fast as it is,,if i build a cheapie and i blow it up there's not the monetary outlay for me to sh$t my pants over,,,CL is turning into my favorite shopping mall,,,$2300 for a buell,,,boy someones taking a bath,,ouch,,,so it's a stella 4t next and then i'll build a nasty gy6,,pick one up with a blown mill super cheap and drop in a built 4 valver,,that should be interesting

Wow I would have snatched up a buel ten years ago in a heart beat for that kind of money. It is said that they have one of the best frame/suspension's and a v-twin built by eric buel and not harley is good to go. When harley owned the co. you got a harley engine.

What's even more amazing than a Buell for $2500 is that a '97 Sportster would be closer to $4000. Same engine, sort of, Sportster doesn't have the brakes, frame or suspension that a Buell has. Plus in 1997 Buell had the motor mounted better to quell vibration. It was three or more years until the Sportster was flexibly mounted.

The Chinese are getting better at making stuff in general. Its like the Japanese in the 60s. THey got better and better and by the 70s made some absolutely great stuff. Chinese made guitars are still cheap as heck but they are now playable. They look good, but who knows how they will hold up. FOr a 250-300 Les Paul though you can't go very wrong.
I think their scooters and bikes will continue to improve.
