It appears luke may have to remove his bmw badge from his scooter....BMW is using chinese engines.

thats an interesting article.

With all the millions of motorcycles the top 5 chinese make, only luke is bad mouthing them, even honda and suzuki are in partnership with them.

That's an impressive article. There are Chinese companies looking to take over American firms? That's not without precedent, Tao Tao took over GS Motorworks. I would imagine Johnny Pag and Cleveland Cyclewerks are in their cross hairs. Maybe even that little company in Milwaukee, what's its name again, Hardly something. Eric Buell has already been tied up by Hero Motorcycles of India.

The top 10 Chinese motorcycle manufacturers in exports between January and September were Loncin, Lifan, Yinxiang, Sundiro Honda, Guangzhou Dayun, Dachangjiang, Qjiang, Guangzhou Haojin, Zongshen and Astronautic Bashan, and their respective exports were 631,300 units, 428,800 units, 379,300 units, 363,000 units, 345,000 units, 317,700 units, 282,100 units, 266,700 units, 249,500 units and 223,200 units.

I got two Bashans.

I don't understand the lack of Znen (Taizhou Zhongneng) on anybody's lists unless this is strictly a motorcycle list. Znen is alleged to be the largest scooter manufacturer in China.

honda has subbed out their scooters for years,same with yamaha,,,i've been screaming this stuff for years,,if you take all the chinese stuff out of half the cars and bikes in the world they would not work,,period,,,i would not doubt it for a second luke's wondermachine has chinese parts in it,,,i use and collect pocket knives,,,have you seen a chinese pocket knife lately?? great knife,,,less than half the cost of a case,fit finish everything as good as or better,,,i wouldn't take one as a gift 5 years ago,,if bmw is ordering whole engines/trans something is right

In another five years the Chinese will own a large chunk of the two wheeled world in this Country. It's taken longer than I thought but it's coming. They're huge in the rest of the world.

if the japanese people would orient the chinese's on how to build and manufacture QUALITY scooters or anything, i wouldn't mind buying chinese products...these people are trying to make a quick buck...,they mass produce everything while quality is being jeopardized...stop being in self-denial,ya'll know that chinese products are....i don't wanna say it's junk(but i said it,lol)...if the chinese's shall rule the business world, what will happen to the people...imagine a toothpaste that is made of melamine?
kids plastic toys that has 90% lead and mercury content?.... my goodness!!..it's not funny anymore!!!

have you been inside a 99cents store?? they are selling canned produce, preserved for almost 10years, now they are selling them for 99cents,,,! god knows what inside it...gosh!

Good god luke for all we know our yamahas were more than likely made in china. yamaha has been in partnership with chinese since '92. all three jap makers, honda, suz/kaw and yamaha all have partnerships with them. Even bmw, and you know if they thought bmw could make a better g650gs engine don't you think they would make it them selves? It's their reputation at stake, they are the best, just ask any bmw dealer or owner.

Could be all the trouble I had getting a piston for my majesty is the japs don't make it and were only a middle man in the parts chain. Over a month for the piston for a motor still in production! That luke is insanity.

I have suspected for a long tine the honda helix was never made in japan, Have heard some of the parts have the same mold marks as the fashion thats made in china.

in Asia, if you patronized any chinese,korean and taiwan products people will laugh at you...i'm an Asian that's why i know it,,, i dunno why here in the US you guys worship them...anywaaay, it's your preferrence, i respect it....LOL

I don't care. I bought a Japanese motorcycle, new, in 1974. All the British, German and American bike owners asked me if I was sure I wanted to do that. I've lived this already. I'll still be riding my Fashion when the Chinese are the big guns and look OH SO SMART. Do your research, the Chinese and India are the next giants. Do you think the new Harley Street 500 and 750 were designed here? I'll bet they're crawling with Chinese components and will out last the American designs by decades.

I posted this a little while ago but i'll repeat it,,,( i'm not saying this out of conceit ok?) i'm a specialty wood finisher my work goes into houses where the master bathrooms cost more than peoples houses cost,,and one of my car restorations was invited to pebble beach this year(1937 p-3 4 door rolls royce convertible),,,so i kinda have an idea what good quality looks like,,,my friend has a detail shop across the driveway and i see him in the morning early,,we BS a few minutes before our days fire up,,he had a new s class mercedes in there next to a hyundai genesis ,,,fit finish leather paint everything on the korean car was better ,,it blew the s class out of the water,,for half the dough,,and the warranty put the german car to shame,,,you think for one minute a company is going to give a bumper to bumper 100,000 mile ten year warranty just out of the blue?,, hyundai can give that warranty because they know the car is really not going to have trouble till 130,000-160,000 miles,,Kz's and alleys and everone else who posts here experience with then is what sold me on them,,,sure there's a few bugs early,,sh!t your morph had a bug or two too,,,your lucky the thing didn't catch fire,,,,the point of my rambling is that chinese scoots may take a bit more in setup/prep and you have to maybe change a part or two that slipped thru QC,,,but the inexpensive buy in is more than compensating for these minor woes,,KZ's experience alone is proof positive of the fact that these scoots can go thousands of miles trouble free,,other forums speak the same language,,some tens of thousands of miles on chinese hardware with little more than a peep

LOL. Believe me when I tell you Borg, I felt so foolish when I realized what happened and why. It still runs fine in spite of my mistake and will for a long time.

I sent a pic of LUKEs sccot to the BMW corporation. Heres what they said:

" We vehemently deny that this item is designed nor produced by BMW. Furthermore we have forwarded this matter to our corporate attorneys to seek punitive damages, Punitive damages for those who must look upon this vehicle"
