Found out my DLH performance variator has a boss thats about 1/16 inch longer than the original? Why would they do that? What effect does that have over the shorter one?

I would like to see a picture of the two boss sleeves next to each other,I think your measurement is wrong. But if it is it may not mean nothing it also depends on the curvature of the variator face plate. Alleyoop

The performance variator is actually a bit shorter than the stock if i lay them down flat. It would make sense if it were wider than stock.

The longer should allow for a lower ratio on the bottom end. My Dr Pulley vari came with three shims to get the same effect. The shorter will up the low ratio. May or may not be critical. I replaced my belt with a longer version which allowed a lower ratio by the belt riding higher in the rear sheave. The lower ratio is very nice in traffic. You can add shims if necessary.
