Well i've had 2 real nice rides on the vespa and tonite i went out to the garage to give the beast another quick look because i'm starting to commute with it tomorrow,,,and i smell raw gas,,,,,MAJOR BUMMER,,,went under the seat and pulled the bin ,,,the vacuum valve is peeing on the engine,,,,,it wasn't pouring but enough for concern,,but no commute with the potential molatov cocktail so i pinched off the feed line with a pair of micro needlenose vicegrips,,now it's off to ebay,,,,so much for italian quality,,,i tried to beat this very issue into bean brains head to no avail,,,all these machines we have are nothing but a pile of parts and stuff just breaks,,,,so here it is under 300 miles on the thing and it has a problem (easily correctable but still ),,,glad it didn't let go yesterday while i was deep into a canyon,,that would have escalated it to super bummer of epic proportions,,with a possible 2-3 hour walk out with no cell service,,,

It sounds like you've got it under control with the vise grips. I say ride it!

the valve itself is leaking,,,the vicegrips are cutting off the feed line to it,,,,,i pull the clamp it leaks again onto a nice hot mill,,

Do you know what I would do first while waiting for the proper replacement part. Coat the whole valve with JB Weld Quick. It's probably a seal made by Yamaha that's leaking, they're terrible about that. You could use it while waiting for the part. Just a thought.
The seal probably dried out while sitting and didn't swell back properly. You'll ride again.

KZ we think very much alike i was actually going to pull the valve blow it all out and dry it good and tape the spigots and dip it in 5 minute epoxy,,,ordered the valve already $7 on ebay for an actual piagio part free ship so i'm good there,,and ordered a 3 pack of oil filters as long as i was at it,,,,the leak is a weep with a steady 2-3 second between drips,,,,it's just the position of it,,,,not good to have gas on hot engine,,,so in the interest of not waiting another week to ride my new baby i'm going to cacoon it with epoxy as a temp till the new one gets here

Well the epoxy dip did the trick for now,,,3 hours now and no weeping so looks like my cripple will work in a pinch for now,,,taking the dr tomorrow so ill give it the peep as soon as i get home,,then ill run it for the next few days after that then change the valve out when the new one gets to the house,,,and as long as i'm in the engine room i'm going to go thru it real good to sort out everything and adjust the spring preload front and back,,,it could use a little more spring,,,and i could loose 25 lbs that will help also

I'm sure it will hold. These new epoxies are indestructible.
