Still riding a 50, however very shortly upgrading... I have done some general work to my bike including changing the clutch springs as it pulled away very slowly.. I also cleaned the carb and oiled spark plug. As it was boggy to start of and wouldn't go above the 20mph power band unless I got their gradually. After installing new clutch springs I noticed an immediate increase in acceleration speeds. Although it took longer to get to 60. After a while there acceleration dropped off and I started to hear a rattling noise, whilst changing the clutch springs initially, I noticed that the rollers were ran down anyway. I am wondering if this is the problem? I have a 9 speed variator set, so 9 rollers... I also don't know the weight, I found a roller set on eBay just in case this is the problem and I'm not sure if the power to weight ratio will mess up if I do just try them. Also, another part of my quest to sort my bike out, is finding out what's wrong with it and why it is boggy to start even after cleaning the carb. It starts up fine occasionally, however it stays under 20mph unless I accelerate gradually in which case I can go way over.. and it only does it occasionally, after the engine is earn it usually starts fine, what is the problem, I'll obviously provide more information if needed. So the questions are, why is my bike boggy to start and accelerate, and what is the problem with acceleration. Thanks very much for your time in advance. I would have writ this much more descriptively however it takes a long time writing on my phone. Thanks again

How many miles? The contra could be worn. If you saw a benefit from new springs I think a new 1000k or at least a quality stockcontra will help. Once they get spongy they lose their effect. I replaced mine at 2000 and saw a big difference. A performance variator and sliders will top it all off.

Good point TW. Bogging can also come from vacuum leaks. The air rushing through the venturi creates a vacuum that lifts the slide. This is kinda complex in that a leak after the carb slows air flow, but a leak precarb doesn't provide adequate resistance. Make sure you don't have any leaks in your air system. Inspect the intake manifold closely, bend it around a little bit, cracks can hide. If you installed an aftermarket air filter that may be your problem. Also, have you set your valve gaps? Further, when you oiled your spark plug what weight did you use? I'm KIDDING! Just kidding. It's always 10W-40. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/3059616/images/j7oliHrgM6d9allIZs7k.gif)

Thankyou for responding, almost 8000 miles, do you still recommend a new contra?

Oh yeah but hang on once you replace it. The deterioration is so gradual so you really dont notice until one day you're like, why wont it go? Put in a new one and your head might just snap off!

the rattling could be due to your rollers in the vari rattling because of flat spots and wear on them.

I wouldnt go with anything more than a 1000 or a stock. 1500 is not real streetable. Weights will rattle.Get a brand name replacement so its somewhat consistent. There seems to be a range of stiffness in these things from make to make. I had 2 stock springs from factory scoots and one was softer than the other and both were new right from the factory clutch so NYC or Hoca brands tend to be better made and more consistent.

One more question actually, i'm thinking about changing the rollers, I put it a'hard (Race)'clutch spring a while ago, but I have no idea what rollers to put in as I have a 9 speed roller set.. And I don't know how much they weigh? So will this effect the power to weight ratio of I just bought some 'race'ones?
