The buy in is a bit steep but they do hold there value pretty good. I just bought a Lance Duke 250 cc with 43 chino miles on it that the previous owner claimed to have paid $25oo for. I gave him $300 for it. So it cost the original owner $2200 to ride 43 miles, toooo rich for me I will stick to my Vespas and Stellas.

Harleys are a cult thing. That's what keeps their price so high. Some of the older ones are like a 49 piper cub....almost ever part on them has been changed at one time or the other. I think there are more harleys in the USA than all the rest of the brands combined. I know when I had to do the top end on my majesty if that had been a harley I could have got parts the next day instead of over a month. And no I have never wanted to own one, but even that could change.

$5000 is still an obscene amount. What I'd like to know is if they sell for that overseas. It would probably explain the Honda SH150i being the leading selling scooter in Italy. Also buying a Morphous for over $6000 OTD and unloading it a year later for $2400 is too rich for me too, so I hear you.

Folks buy these scoots and think I will save enough on gas to pay for it,or wifey thinks there cute, etc. and when they buy them they find out that scoots are not there cup of tea,put them in garage trip over them and have a fire sale.My next scoot is in somebody's garage right now waiting for me. Too many nice used scoots avalable to justify buying new a one. I bought a used Velocity 150 a year or so ago with less than 10 miles, how stupid is that buy a scoot drive it down the driveway, trip over it a few times and sell it for pennies on the dollar.

I agree a lot of people buy them then don't ride them. There is always going to be a deal out there for us to take advantage of. I've thought about picking up a second one if the price is right.

Where have you guys been? Do you have any idea how many Japanese motorcycles suffered the same fate back in the seventies and eighties. It's always been like that. Cyborg's scooter is a perfect example of the ongoing habit. A $4000 Vespa sitting in the garage with less than 100 miles? How lame is that? It will always be like that. Not to mention the other thing I keep hearing. People bought bikes for under $2000 back then. They flogged on them and when a dealer said, "Sure we can fix it. Only $500 plus tax" the bikes were scrapped. People who buy cheap think the fix is cheap too. Take your $100 Walmart bicycle with bent wheel into a bike shop and see what repairs cost. "What!! $50 dollars for a wheel replacement!" No one thinks of enjoyment value, all they think is purchase cost vs. maintenance costs.

I don't know where everybody else has been but for the five plus years I have been sucking these deals up. My wifes logic on this matter is " This doesnt seem right you buy these scotters for very little money. Have fun fixing them up and riding them and sell them for more than you paid for them" I guess this is the female gender logic. Tonites project is a TMZ? 150 with less than 100 miles.

Kz is correct as usual,,,,the vespa had 88 miles $1600 got it in my garage,,,and with a little work and really no money (the work was frustrating tho,,,bad service accessability,, this is going to be an issue i can tell ) and on the japanese side i picked up a 1994 dr350 1200 miles as new for $1000,,,but it did need more work and money as i hot rodded it ,,,but i knew this going in,,,,another $1000 and no real work to make a stellar performer that would cost well over $8000 to replace with a new one,,,and i know where a under 500 mile one owner cb200 is sitting in one of my clients garage,,,they want to get rid of it,,but want too much money for it ,,i offered 4-500 bux but they want a grand,,,but it's been sitting and they didn't keep up the reg or non-op it so it's got a ton of back fees so i'll pass on that one,,,,one of my new lines i'm working into my repetuar is when i see a project i ask if they have an old bike or scooter in the garage to trade for partial payment,,,i'm in over 100 homes a year so the odds are in my favor,,( this is why i've owned so many bikes Luke,,,you should know the back story before you pass judgement),,,i went into one garage and they had 12-15 vincents,,,none for sale tho,,,bummer,,,lots of iron sportsters,,,pass,,,

I tried flipping too. People here think they have the Hope Diamond and want more than online prices for Chinese scooters. I scoured Craigslist and Classifieds for months. It was a lost cause. I only managed one deal, made a few bucks and gave up.

It's the same around here with high asking prices on scooters. I think in an area where there are more scooters that would change. A 5 year old 150 might be advertised for $900 or more and have seen 12 and 1300 on them. And no idea if they get that, I just don't like to argue with some one over a ridiculous price.

I never got anyone to let go of their garage paperweight scooter cheap until i bumped into the vespa,,,and when i do find them for a reasonable price on CL they're usually gone by the time i call on them,,,,the others i see when i'm brousing are way overpriced as well,,,
