Me and my dad cut down I think a juniper tree bright red circle in the middle and its beautiful. Made some cup coasters out of it thinking about lacquering it. And here is a chunk I cut by hand its a little off center but i'm going to be band-sawing it. Any ideas what to make? 1drv.ms/1lwY3oV

I can't see the picture but from my experience if it's left out in the light you will soon loose the red rings. They will turn gray if not sealed and even than a lot will be lost. Enjoy it while it lasts.

This one on my property line is about 17" through:
Before my father passed away in 06 he built his own house from lumber he sawed in his own mill and he had a lot of heart cedar and I still to this day have some of his finest boards:
This past winter in my shop I built this in honor of my father's wood working skills and now sit on my porch looking at Petit Jean Mt. in it:
A closer look at the wood and the work I did to the swing:
I did put a sealer on this, over time cedar will fade but I've never seen it turn gray.

Northern Wisconsin cedars a diferent breed. Softer, smaller and mostly only good for fence posts.
Very nice looking swing and a grand tribute to your Dad.

Hopefully I will be able to make one of those in the next 100 to 400 years.

And i might add i am a little jealous of that awesome pile of center cut cedar,,,got to make a nice cabinet my man,,,, Unless they went out of business there is a little mil close to Booneville Arkansas that sells these kind of cut boards, cedar, 1 X 4 X 1/2 thick 50 to a bundle for $75 plus freight.
