I bought this Gy-6 150cc scooter for my wife and we've had nothing but trouble. She has managed to get 1,250 miles on it so I gues that's not entirely true. Although, it's taken at least a year to do that. So, I'm trying to get it running ONE MORE TIME. I have all the body off and went ahead and checked everything out. Air filter- unnaturally clean! Valves -tight, I set them. CVT -didn't check that because it's doing fine
Now, the problem. I can't get it running. I've replaced the top half of the carb -the diaphragm was ripped.
The carb is getting gas but I don't think the gas is making it to the combustion chamber.
I've taken the carb apart and blown out everthing I could with carb cleaner. All holes seem to be clean.
When I checked the spark plug, it's dry. It is sparking.
This is driving me batty!
I have a Burgman 400 and had zero problems out of it! I said ONE MORE TIME because she left me but I told her I'd get it going for her once more.
I don't see how you guys keep these thing running! I've had nothing but problems with this scooter. On the other hand, if I can fix this, I may be able to fix the locals scooters and make some money!
Thanks for any help! I'm right before buying a complete carb.

When you cleaned the carb, you cleaned the PILOT JET and ITS passage with carb cleaner and made sure SPRAY CAME OUT of the tiny holes by the BUTTERFLY? Those are very tiny fuel outlets and that is where gas needs to be sucked of for it to start and run. Now the other thing is if the Butterfly is completly closed so try giving the IDLE SPEED screw a 1/16-1/8 turn clockwise. Then TUrn the fuel ratio screw clockwise until it stops then turn it out 2 1/2 turns. That should be more than enough fuel for it to start and idle and it may run good at that setting, but it may need a little tweak left or right. Also check your ENRICHER, take it off and lay it on its side, then cover the hole with your thumb and hold it there and see if the motor will start. If it does hold your thumb on the hole and watch the ENRICHER and see if it extends out 1/4 of an inch with 3-5 minutes, if so it is good. If it is already extended when you take it off COLD then it is not retracting for cold starts and replace. Alleyoop

What do you mean by valves are tight? Hope they aren't too tight. How about a couple of drops of gas in carb before cranking? It should at least fire alittle with that.

If the valves are tight they will not seal and the motor will not have enough compression to start. Alleyoop

The enricher is the thing on the side with the two wires, correct? if so, that may be the problem.
I need to make SURE those little pilot holes are clear.
The valves WERE tight. I adjusted them.
I'll get bak on it this week and report back. Thanks for the suggestions guys!

The way to do it is get the carb cleaner and they all come with a long thin straw stick it into the pilot jet and spray and spray should come out of the holes by the butterfly. Alleyoop Yes the enricher is the BLACK piece with the two wires going to it. If when you take it off COLD it looks like this EXTENDED, then that is your problem: When you take if off COLD it should look like this RETRACTED:

Reset your valves pal to .004" and .005"(exhaust) and put a new carb on...they're like 30 bucks. Alley knows where to get a good deal. If you're getting gas to the float bowl then it may be the needle valve in the float bowl. Carefully remove it and clean it.

I love the thread title but don't feel that way. Ok so you've did all this and plug is dry? So the only way this happens is: No gas in tank If it has fuel pump it is bad or has no vacuum to it ( more than one thing can cause this) If it is gravity feed with a vacuum petcock, it's bad, stopped up or has no vacuum Carb intake manifold is sucking air, due to poor engine seal or is cracked or not fitting tightly around carb Carb is stopped up (low speed jet) or just screwed up period. Now myself and each to his own, I have never will I never rattle my brains over a cheap Chinese scooter carb when I can buy one off the net for under $30, heck I have seen specials and bought one for under $20. www.ebay.com/itm/26mm-Sunl-150-Carburetor-150cc-GY6-Carb-4-Stroke-Chinese-Scooter-Moped-157-NEW-/141246789431?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20e2f6f737&vxp=mtrLastly since you say the plug in dry? Check to see if the carb even has any gas in the carb bowl, if not then it's not the carb but possibly one of the things I mentioned on the above list? Your valve adjustment is important, poorly set can mean no vacuum and if that is happening, you'll keep a dry plug. JR
