Okay, well there's the second fall off my scooter within two months. Those pesky potholes....except this time it feels like i put something out in my back, my neck is on fire, and my knee feels like it's a bunch of tiny shards. Hopefully the pain subsides...

Well dude. I hope you're okay. Obviously, go get yourself checked out. I hope I don't come off like a prick here, because that's certainly not my intention, but I have to ask...Have you had any training, or did you just hop on your bike and go? I deal with 8" deep pot holes every day, at least until they get them fixed for the summer. If I hit one, I'd be in the same boat as you. I only bring it up for one reason. Prior to taking the MSF Basic Rider Course, I'd never been on a bike in my life. During that class, I learned more than what I expected to. Obviously, after getting my scoot on the road this spring, I've gotten a more hands on education. After taking that course, I certainly was no expert. I still am not. I can say that I received a very solid foundation upon which to build safe riding experiences. I hope that your two recent spills are just a nasty coincidence. Please let us all know how things turn out when you go to the doc. How's the scoot?

I haven't taken any formal education, no. But I am always as cautious as I can be, just not cautious enough when you hit a pothole so deep that you can't do anything but fall. Seriously, this pothole was so large there is nobody that COULDNT have went down had they hit it (like I did). Both times this has happened it has been night time and on unfamiliar roads. I feel like I shouldn't be riding on unfamiliar roads at night!!! best go to the doctors tomorrow though. Hopefully you're right and these spills are just really bad coincidences and not some string of bad luck!!
As for the scooter...those things are a lot stronger than people give them credit for. It fell on the same side as it did last time (except this time I ended up to the right of the scooter, not under it), so you can't really scratch what paint was already scratched off. No visible damage but I haven't really looked.

Don't understand why you are not seeing the potholes and avoiding them I mean even when i am driving my car I see them and move to the left or right to avoid them. You have to be more vigilante and conscience of all your surroundings BRO. Alleyoop

That"s called riding over your head! (faster than you can control) Pretty easy to miss stationary objects, its the ones that are moving that cause me the problems!

Could you possibly be fixating on the pot holes. That is, you concentrate on the object you wish to avoid instead of where you need to go. Don't look at the pot hole. Look at the clear road you wish to go to. That will greatly improve your odds. Also, maybe you need to improve the lighting or ride within the ones you have. Best wishes at the doctors.

Hey kid I hope your ok . The NYC roads are pretty bad here too . When I went for my MC licence , I used a bike from a school and had a lesson on that bike just before the test . The instructor gave me some great pointers . Look at where you want go and the bike will follow . Just like in turns if you look at the lines you go right for them , if you look in the center of the lane you will go there .
I understand fear is powerful , here is what you do honk your horn at the pot hole see if it moves if not manoover around it .

Ya know, not everyone is cut out to ride around on two wheels. It's beginning to sound like you may fall into that group. If you don't figure out what you're doing wrong, and pretty darn soon...I don't think you are long for this world.....Sorry if this offends you....just calling it as I see it...Bob

Keep in mind that both times this has happened to me was on an unregulated dirt road with tons of dust being kicked up by the bike/bikes in front of me, so I guess that could explain the visibility. I have absolutely zero plans on giving up riding on two wheels, it's just too much of a joy. I think I'm just going to stay away from dirt roads from now on, is all. Gotta get up and keep on kickin' (err...rolling)!

Maybe some protective gear might be a good idea for night riding . How are you feeling this morning ? Did you get sleep ?

Wow....quite the sympathetic crowd aren't we? Scooter Doc.....the empty vesicle of compassion forum...that's right....for all your devoid of empathy needs...try Scooter Doc! Actually Talisman guy I think they were really concerned about you. You sure you didn't fracture anything? There's a fairly good rule of thumb for determining that. If you can put weight on a bone it probably isn't broke. Also, if the suspected area gets REALLY bruised looking, i.e. a boatload of black, green, mega swelling, it's probably broke. The reason for this is the periosteum, which is a highly vascular layer of tissue surrounding your bones, gets torn with a fracture. So you OK? Don't use heat, use ice. All that swelling is inflammation, take ibu if you can. If it hurts, avoid that activity. Pain is your body's alarm mechanism, don't ignore it. Need a work slip? Let's see, that'll be $78.00....no debit cards! I kid!....I do take debit cards! Go get an X-ray if there's any chance you broke something. How's the scooter? ......I KID! Rich

Sorry to hear you hit another pot hole. There all over the place hear in Pittsburgh also. The dirt roads by your house are bad I am assuming. Sounds like you were riding with some friends glad you had someone with you to peel you of the road. I agree with a lot of people get yourself checked out. Your spirt is high and sounds like you can't wait to get back on that red scooter.
I believe your red scooter is cursed and should think about selling it. That ruckus you got has much wider tires and might have helped with the impact. Wow you got bad luck please use more caution if you end up hurting yourself real bad you will not get to enjoy your passion for scooters for some time.
Hope this makes you feel better I was fishing yesterday on the river and slipped in the mud feel on a root and skinned up my leg a little. Hurt pretty bad at first and then I started laughing thinking what a jack arse I looked like when went to the ground.
But that is somewhat of the point but think you should consider getting rid of that cured scooter. It needs a nickname now the pot hole finder?
Hope you are taking it easy and healing up hope you were wearing your helmet also.

I'm feeling much better today guys. Just a bit sore is all. Most injuries seem a lot worse than they are at first, I guess. The good news is that I'm feeling better, and that I got back on and rode today, but not before tearing my bike down completely, tricking out my dashboard with some LED's that John sent me, removing the giant metal rattling reflector from my headlight housing, losing one screw in my scooters plastics, and of course getting a rare earth magnet stuck somewhere on my steering stem (still haven't found it, probably never will). Thanks John! Also, I'm starting to wonder if my bike has had "Terminator" on the front of it to show that it WILL kill you (maybe that's why the previous owner sold it for $200?).
