I talked to Jack about your problem and we feel that you have a ground issue. You hit the brake and are connecting the battery to the headlight circuit. You need to check all of your grounds and make sure they are clean and intact. Of especial importance would be the ground for the brake light. Also check and make sure there is no short between the yellow and black wire. The yellow is AC to the headlights (usually) and the black is DC from the key switch.

Still riding every day it doesn't rain or snow. We just had a winter storm alert that didn't happen. The temps have been 20 to 30 in the morning and 50 to 60 during the day. I'm at 11,000 on the odo. I need to do a service job and check the rollers. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so I guess I'll put that off until Tuesday. When the weather breaks I plan on putting some serious miles on this puppy. I can generally put a 1,000 a month on a bike if the weather is OK. The Citycom just keeps rolling and running. It never complains and will run at high speeds while humming a happy tune. My friend Pete has suggested a couple mods to eke a few more HP out of her. I'm going to try it but I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. I'll let you know what happens. Rich

You will love it. It starts every time and hauls arse. My only criticisms are that the short rake makes it a little tippy at low speeds, it's a little tall in the saddle, mounting a trunk is problematic, and the speedo is off. These are small gripes and the positives far outweigh them.

Here is the Scooter Doc GY6 manual. You will find a complete description of how the stator works and how to test it.

Your two wires from the stator that kill the engine are the CDI AC power and the trigger coil. The engine will not run without these wires. An AC GY6 creates spark right from the CDI, the spark does not run through the key. Once the bike is started you can unhook the key, and the battery, and it will continue to run. You must kill the engine with the killwire which is the black/white wire coming out of the two port on the CDI. Your bike is not shutting off because the killwire is not grounding out when the key is turned off. Check your connections from the killwire to key switch to ground wire. Something is not making contact. There's a tutorial on the GY6 ignition switch under electrical in the Library.

Most of the vendors in the tile ads at the top of the site sell triggers without a whole stator. I would strongly urge you to get a puller, they are about $20.00 and you can get them on the same sites as the trigger.

Alley is spot on and I should have mentioned that. Do that first before you spend money on a replacement coil. I still think it's the trigger because you said you had an instance when it just shut off while riding. But Alley is correct, it could be valves and they don't cost a thing to set the gap.

I strongly suspect your ignition problem is your trigger coil. They may test normal at no load but as soon as the bike heats up the coil starts to fail. I'd swap out the trigger coil and see what happens. They're inexpensive and easy to swap out. Try that first and then there's other things we can do but I bet that is your problem. Rich

Or we could wire up a couple toggle switches to do what the key does. Or just go get a simple key switch at auto weinie and we'll wire it up. They're pretty simple, red from battery energizes black when the key is on and you have to wire the kill to ground through the key. Me? I'd go with two toggles, who's going to figure that out? We'll mislabel them and put them in odd spots. Put the main switch in the seat bucket so you can lock it! Just let us know if you want to try it, it's a piece of cake.

The other sensor is for your heat gauge. However, that sensor is in the cooling system near the thermostat. It is not in the carb. We need pix and you can use the insert image button on quick reply (thanks Jack) and browse to your computer.

Cyborg says Pirellis are a little soft but for that price I would do it.
