I just saw this thread....sorry. A bad starter will definitely pull too much juice. I'm not sure what they're supposed to pull but if they get hot or the cables get hot they're probably bad. I think it's safe to say 400 is too much. But if a battery gets drained with minimal cranking, the battery or starter is probably bad. If you try another battery and it does the same thing, it's the starter. We went through this with Kaveman, I'll see if I can find the thread.

My wife surprised me with a request to go riding today. This is unusual because it was misting a little bit and she doesn't like cold or wet weather. I said hell yeah and cranked 'em up. We went out for about 45 minutes, it was great. This is when we got back. It's 73 here right now.....eat your hearts out! And TVnACman, I am NOT bald, I just wear a buzz cut! Sheesh! By the way, we're in our 60's and TVnACman cannot have any of the magic elixir because he said hurtful things about my hair. Everybody else can, just send me a container.....even Jack....and Alley....but not Cyborg....nope...no way!

My wife would have said: 1. Yours has chocolate all over the wrapper 2. Yours is almost gone because you're a pig 3. Yours is the one melting over by the toaster 4. Mine is hidden behind the spinach quiche I know you wouldn't look there 5. It's a good thing you have significant earning power

Have you ever swapped one? It's a piece of cake. I did it in two hours once including lunch. The engine is not that heavy but a floor jack helps. If you need help we are here.

I still can't figure out what runs where. You'll have to construct a diagram. However, I think you are correct, it's a bad cap releasing coolant into the reservoir. Further, I'd just bypass the carb heater, they're worthless. Just use a heater hose union and some hose clamps. By the way, after looking at your pix again, you should be able to see coolant running through the cap housing, i.e. the swirl test. Even though that's not right on the radiator the coolant runs through there when the thermostat opens. But job one, replace the cap.

The blackbirds are flocking here, that's always a sign of spring. Next the golden finches will appear. We already have some early flowers coming out. Of course today we're supposed to get an ice storm. Here's a video of "Birds Gone Wild!" around this time of the year:

We have the manual to that bike if you need it. It's in the manuals section under non-Chinese. Yes it is a little fugly but they are nicely made:

That's a valid concern Pete. The gas and oil mix is another. And Alley is right we don't want to trash the motor just yet. There's things to sort out here.

There's a section in the Library called manuals. There's a board called Scooter Doc manual. It has extensive testing procedures for stators and rectifiers. You said all of your lighting was DC which is a valid system on newer bikes. They're usually a three phase system. If it is three phase you will have three yellows coming out of your stator. Every light would be DC....no AC. The more common system is a split AC DC in which the stator will have a yellow green and white coming out of it. In that case the headlight would be AC but the tail light and turn signals will be DC. Tell us what is coming out of the stator. Pictures would help.

That's normal to go CCW and have it be difficult and then easy. It's like being married...you have...oh well, that's another forum. Anyway, that's the compression stroke that makes it difficult. Did you check the oil level with the dipstick like Cyberg suggested? The engine slowed with the bike? That may mean it's an engine problem. Of course oil in the CVT case is a very bad thing for belt function.

You have a short. When you pull in the brake it energizes not only the brake light but the starting circuit. Look at this diagram and follow the brake light circuit and solenoid circuit:
You have constant juice to the solenoid which is bad. I bet if you look at your brake light it is on all of the time. Either the switch is bad for the brake light handle or there's a short somewhere down the circuit.

That would be the killwire. You can hook it up to a switch that runs to a ground and it will do the same as grounding through the switch:
That is all the key does, it connects the kill to ground when you turn the bike off.
