Hello, I have an old SYM 125cc scooter (air cooled). One of the front suspensions is leaking. I got a new oil seal with the same measurements, but i need help with how to disassemble the suspension so i can replace the oil seal and put some new oil. This is a picture of the top of the suspension. There is a black cap on top, which i was able to remove. This is a picture of how it looks like under the black cap. From what i understand this is a metal disc/cap which i need to push down, and then there supposed to be a clip which i need to remove, so i can take out the metal disc/cap. I actually can't see a clip there, but as you can see there is rust in there. Should i try to spray the rust with some WD-40 and let it penetrate for a while, before i try to push it inside? Is there a video or a guide on how to rebuild this type of front suspension? Thank you for any help.

I watched some videos, and do you think that it may be possible to remove the upper guide with only removing the camshaft?
When you open the 4 head nuts, but not moving the head itself, the gasket itself stay ok? Or once you open the head nuts, that's it, you have to replace the head gasket?

Thank you for the answer. Is it possible to replace the upper guide without removing the engine head?

Hi, For quite some time, i noticed that the cam chain has too much free play to the sides, on the camshaft. I did a rebuild to the engine about 14k miles ago, and i replaced the cam chain and tensioner. I tried to replace the tensioner again with a new one, but same problem. When i took off the tensioner, i did notice that on the cam chain guide, there is a small dent where the tensioner is pushing against the cam chain upper guide. Tried to make a photo but it's hard to see inside, so i found an old post of someone here which had the same thing with the cam chain guide, and he took a photo with the engine head off, so you can see it better. This is the post where he published the photo. Is this dent can cause the cam chain not to be tensioned enough? Thank you.

I actually know scooterseals.com . I ordered from there many times. The owner, Cam, is a very nice and honest guy. I also recommend to order from him if you need genuine SYM parts.
So i guess the only choice with this starter clutch, is to purchase the SYM genuine part. Thank you for trying to help.

Hi, I am looking for a starter clutch for a SYM 125cc scooter. This is a picture i found of the genuine SYM starter clutch: The problem is, that a genuine Sym starter clutch is around $100. When i searched for a replacement part, i found a starter clutch for a GY6 scooters, but it's a little different. If you can see, the genuine SYM starter clutch has a small gear at the back, which is for turning the oil pump gear. The generic GY6 starter clutch don't have this gear at the back, because most GY6 125cc/150cc that i saw use a small chain to turn the oil pump. Anyone knows where i can find a generic starter clutch, that looks like the genuine SYM starter clutch in the picture? Thank you.

Hi, It was raining here the past week. I hope that tomorrow it will not rain, so i can make a video. Another thing i noticed yesterday (weather was a little cold), when i started the scooter when engine is cold (after night), i heard something like a squealing noise when i hit the starter button. It was only for a second or two, and after that the scooter started OK. It didn't do that again, when the engine was warm. Anyone familiar with that squealing noise? Mine does this when it's really cold. Did it last Friday 20° and less seems to do this. I have this scooter for about 12 years, and it begun to make that squealing noise when it's cold only at the past year. What can cause this squealing noise when it's cold?

Thank you for the reply. I actually checked the valves not a while ago, and only the exhaust valve needed some adjustment, but it was still within specs (0.10-0.14 mm). It's a 125cc SYM scooter, and i usually set the valves at about 0.12mm.
Someone told me it sounds like the connecting rod bearing. What do you think?

Hi,
I noticed recently a rattle / knocking noise that seems to come from behind the cooling fan. I can only hear it at idle. Once you accelerate it sounds ok, and runs smoothly.
I'm sure it's not the roller weights that rattle.
I read that some people had problems with the starter clutch, which caused a rattle noise. Does the needle bearing inside the starter clutch can make that noise when it's failing?
What about the connecting rod bearing? If that's the cause, is it supposed to make rattle / knocking also when you accelerate?
Thank you.

So what do you think i should do? Alleyoop, do you also think it's tight enough in the second video? Do you think i should replace the tensioner? Also, why it was ok when i closed the engine, and after 600 miles it's suddenly became too loose?

I always thought that these tensioners don't need any adjusting, just install them and forget about them. Btw, here is a picture of the old tensioner:

Thank you for the answer. Maybe the SYM tensioner is a little different , because clockwise is making the tensioner to be loose, and counter clockwise making it more tensioned. It's like that also in the old tensioner that i have. Do you think i should replace that tensioner, or that manually adjusting it is not so bad? What will happen during the life time of the engine, will it adjust the chain automatically?
