So I'm still in the middle of my GY6 exhaust problem repair. I had to get a new pipe, new muffler, new everything and start from scratch. I went with stock everything so if it still gets cherry hot I know the problem lies elsewhere. The final part arrived today, and it is the exhaust gasket. It looks like the right shape there is no doubt, but it doesn't resemble gaskets I am used to working with. It is nearly 1/4" thick and hard as plastic. In fact, on first exam I thought it was plastic. Does this sound normal? I guess I was expecting something much thinner and somewhat flexible. So do I use gasket dressing just like I would for any other gasket? Suggestions are welcome.

The muffler that came on it was a dual muffler so I'm sure it had a lot of back pressure. I sure wish I could just find an exact replacement.

Yes we took it to a known 10 mile marker (we have used it before for this purpose) and 10 miles back and the tank was all but empty. So we are very sure of it sucking gas. The jet is the stock jet that came on it not sure of size. I have read these are usually very small already but we will see tonight.

Miles per gallon... It is actually doing fine on speed. It went 20 miles on one gallon of gas vs. 60 previously. And yes, it is glass pack with a straight pipe.

Replaced the stock muffler on a 150cc with a performance muffler which is a straight pipe type. Runs fine but sucking gas (only 20 mpg) and small blue fireball on throttle down. Muffler gets HOT. My guess is I need to adjust the mixture on the carb way down? Other ideas? I was going to re gap the valves as well.

Well I will replace the tensioner then. And the cap. All I know for sure is that the oil isn't coming from around the valve cover itself because that whole area is clean. All of the oil seems to be sprayed all over the underside of the seat box and dripping down. But all of that could be explained by it blowing out of the hole where the tensioner cover is missing. The main problem is when we just crank it and let it idle, no oil seems to be coming out. But driven, it runs out like crazy. Thanks for the advice. I'll check back in.

Ok so what you are saying is that there should be another piece there. What I see when I look into the hole is a small threaded hole that has what looks like a small set screw down in it. So are you saying there is something that goes into that hole above the little screw but under the cover? I know that nobody popped it off, the guy is scared to even change the oil without me there. I have not been able to confirm that is where the oil is coming from. It is coming out of that hole for sure, but I don't know if it is originating from there. It could be coming from someplace else under the engine shroud but just blowing out that hole. Great.

Yep that is it. The screw is in there, it is just the cover that is missing from it. So there are the two small circular pieces on the side and in the middle I'm looking right down into the part itself. I found an upper engine shroud for 7 bucks online that seems to have the entire cover piece for it. Let's hope that works.. for some reason it tells me I'm inserting a photo but it doesn't show up [/img] Attachments:

I bought a scooter for an employee to run errands on. I'm not that familiar with scooters but I have been able to do basic repairs and maintenance with no problems. However, he brought it over tonight saying that it was leaking oil badly. Checked valve cover and it is actually one of the few things not saturated in oil. The whole underside of the seat box was coated in oil, which indicates and upward spray. I noted that there was an opening just past the carb which definitely looked like it should be plugged. I looked up photos of GY6 engines and sure enough it seems like there should be a black plastic cover over this opening. I am embarrassed to say that I don't know what the part is called, so I don't know what to order to fix it. Please see the photo, and thanks in advance.
